detergent?? Can I just use tide free and clear or dreft since that is what I will be using most for LOs clothes?

Do NOT use Dreft, it will ruin your diapers. A lot of site also say to not use any of the Free and Clears, but I know some of the ladies around here have with no problems.

We used original powdered Tide at first...but we have hard water and started getting buildup.  I switched to Rockin Green Hard Rock and love it!

I've only used Planet and have had no problems whatsoever. Never tried anything else though.

I've used All F&C, Purex F&C and Rockin Green, too. Rockin' Green gave my daughter horrible rashes.
