XP: failure to thrive ?

Has anyone on here had their child diagnosed with failure to thrive?  what kind of tests did they do?  Did they have you do anything to help them gain weight? 

I was BF my daughter and at 3.5-4 weeks she turned colicky.   took her in and had blood in her stool and mucus.  I went to pumping and she was on nutramigen.  It was like a new baby.  The dr suggest either a HIGHLY sensitive diet or switch to formula.  I switched to formula.  The first week she gained 15 oz and we thought all was good.. 

 After 3.5 weeks, she is back to colicky and I brought her in.  she has only gained 2 oz in those weeks.  I am being referring to the pedi GI for FTT, allergic colitis, milk/soy protein allergy.

 What kind of tests can I expect?  A switch in formula to neocate?  

What are your experiences with FTT?

I don't have any experience with FTT, but I just wanted to say "that sucks"...I'm sure that's the last thing you wanted to hear from the Dr.  Big hugs!

We were never officially labeled FTT becuase K never fell below the 5% on the growth chart. But, like you she did great on Alimentum for a few weeks before turning back into a super colicky/ refluxy baby. She also only gained a total of about 7 ounces in a month.

We had an upper GI and small bowel study done, an ultrasound, and a series of lab work. No anatomical abnormalities were found. We switched her to neocate for severe MSPI and started her on meds for delayed gastric draining on top of the prevacid she was already on.

She is still very slow to gain weight and is only in the 12%tile but, she is much happier. The doctors are fine with her slow gain right now since she is going in the right direction.

Good luck! Figuring out what is wrong can be a long, draining road but I think you are doing the right thing by going to a GI.

im so sorry... we ll be right there with ya soon. Kinda got a verbal "hes not thriving " from the pediatrician this past week at his appointment.  My little man is not gaining weight and has actually lost 1/2 a lb in 2 weeks... he was born 7lbs 1 oz and is at 8 weeks 8lbs 8oz... He has terrible reflux and hadnt been keeping anything down really... he s now been taken off breastmilk all together and having to formula feed ... a little sad but i just hate seeing his ribs when i bathe him... just a reminder of how he is not thriving.... i have just wanted to cry especially cause we didnt have a good day today... he had a major vomiting cycle and only took in 15 ozs in 24 hours. ... hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
