The pill

I know I need to ask my doctor this but I am curious, which brand of birth control pill do you use?  My doc prescribed the generic version of ortho tri cyclen lo, but I went to get it at Target today and they said it was recalled.  I do not want to pay for the brand name...

  • My doc put me on Necon 1/35...it's a generic for Ortho Novum 1/35.

  • Which generic for ortho tri cyclene do you use?  I have tri sprintec and no one said anything to me about a recall, I am assuming there are several generics

I do not know which generic.  I just asked for the generic version and was told it was recalled.  I did not realize there were different ones!

  • Earlier this year, I was on the generic for Ortho Tricyclen LO - and yes, you are right, they no longer dispense it.  They then switched me to Trisprintec (the generic for Ortho Tricyclen - not the LO version).  It gave me headaches, cramps, couldn't take it.  Then I went off the pill to TTC.
  • SO funny you said that about the tri sprintec - the first week I was on it, I wanted to die.  It was awful!

When I was going on the full strength pill (I had been on the mini pill because I was nursing DD) I messed up and told them I wanted ortho tri cyclen when really what I wanted was ortho cyclene.  That's what I was on before having kids and I really liked it.

Anyway, the side effects went away after that first week so I just stayed on it

  • huh, wow!

Well, right now I'm using the nuva ring, and absolutely loving it so far!  No remembering to take a pill every day (and if I took it even an hour or two late I would get nauseous) and I can't even feel it in there.

  • I refuse to use the generic for my birth control pills.  I pay for the name brand.  This is a pill I refuse to mess with.  The name brand has never given my any side effects, so I don't want to chance that the generic would.   I've been on the name brand since the start and I know it works and I refuse to change to the generic.  I don't want to jinx myself.  LOL!!  By the way I take Ovcon 35.
  • I take the generic of the regular ortho tri cyclene.  It's called trinessa.  When I first started back on birth control pills I was on ortho tri cyclene low, but that was only because my doctor gave me a bunch of samples to get started.  I didn't have any problems with the lo, I didn't have any problems with switching, and the only problem I have had since being on the trinessa happens when I forget to take one, and take two at the same time.  I have found that if I do forget, the next day I take one in the morning and one in the evening and it's all fine.
