Anyone want to share their VBAC and C/S birth plans?

Or point me where to find some?  I'm going to ask at my appt next week, but I'd like to see some in advance to see if I have any questions.

  • I hope this keeps the formatting.  These were mine from my Augst 09 VBAC

GOALS FOR THE BIRTH OF BABY LASTNAME

    Patient Name:             NAME

    Patient?s Husband:      NAME

    Midwife:                      NAME

    Birth Doula:                 NAME

    Guiding Philosophy:

Childbirth is natural and healthy.  Mother Nature has designed a beautiful process and we will let it unfold without interfering, so long as mother and baby are without medical complications.

    Vaginal Exams:

    • Upon request only

    IV:

    • Hep-Lock

    Food & Water:

    • Food and drink as mandated by hunger/thirst cues.

    Pain Relief:

    • Please only offer pain medications if requested.

    Movement during Labor:

    • I shall be free to seek out whatever positions are comforting to me during labor; movement shall be unrestricted.

    Fetal Monitoring:

    • Intermittent external fetal monitoring.

    Episiotomy:

    • There shall be NO episiotomy; we will risk a naturally-occurring tear.

    Delivery:

    • We would like to employ spontaneous, mother-directed pushing.
    • Mother shall be told when the baby is crowning.
    • Perineum shall be massaged during crowning.
    • The mother shall be offered the option of reaching down and grasping her baby, pulling baby up to her chest.
    • Father shall announce the baby?s sex.
    • Father shall cut the umbilical cord only after it stops pulsating.
    • Baby shall be placed directly onto the mother?s chest, then both covered with blankets.
    • Newborn procedures and check-up shall be postponed until baby has nursed.

    Third Stage Labor:

    • The placenta shall be born spontaneously, without pitocin or use of manual extraction.
    • I would like to delay routine pitocin after the placenta is born unless there are signs of hemorrhaging; immediate nursing shall be employed to assist with the uterus contracting.

  • To my Health Care Providers: Thank you for taking the time to work with us and our birth plan. These are our preferences; and as this is a planned Cesarean birth we are looking forward to a positive birth experience. We want to participate in this birth to the fullest. We have listed our preferences below; your help in assisting us through this process is very much appreciated.

    Environment
Please, no residents or students attending my birth.
I would like to have my husband with me at all times.

    Anesthesia

No mind-altering drugs are to be administered without my expressed permission. It is important to me not to feel drugged or be unable to remember the events of the birth.
I would like the catheter put in after anesthesia is administered.

    During the Procedure

I would like to see the baby immediately after birth if at all possible. If there is any way to place the baby on my chest, even for a few seconds, I would like this to happen.

With the exception of nurses/doctors I am to be the first person to hold the baby.

    Newborn Procedures
We would like it if my husband remains with the baby at all times.
My baby is to be exclusively breastfed, do not offer my baby formula, pacifier, and artificial nipple or sugar water without my consent.
We would like it if the all routines and procedures could be performed in our presence.

    Post-Op & Recovery

I would like to have contact with the baby as soon as it is possible in the delivery room.
I would like my husband to remain with me at all times during the recovery unless the baby is taken elsewhere. In this instance I would like for him to remain with the baby.
I wish to have the baby with me in recovery so that I can breastfeed.
We would like our baby to room in with us. I will have someone with me at all times to assist me with the baby in any way.

  • I haven't come up with any formal birth plans yet.  Here is the gist:

    Vaginal:

-If everything is fine, leave me the f*ck alone and let my body do its thing

    Cesarean:

-No strapping my arms down. Or at least leave one of them free.

-Please don't talk about my internal organs and what you are doing to them when I can hear you

    -No dumbass students or residents

-Stitches and glue instead of staples

That's all I have so far Smile
