GD sugars going LOWER???

all this week i've noticed that my sugars are slowly going a bit lower...for example-my fasting #s are usually around 89-93 and today they were 76???  also my 2-hr post meal #s are usually between 95-110 (on average) and after eating a cesar salad w/crutons and a cup of cream of broccoli soup yesterday for lunch they were 65???  what gives?  i called my dr this am but she's not in until later.  has anyone else experienced this?

  • Since I just got dx last week I haven't done a ton of research yet.  However, I have read that when you get towards the end and the placenta breaks down (not always in a bad way) it can be easier to manage your GD.  I thought this happened closer to 36+ weeks, but I'm not sure.  I'd be curious what your doc says, so please update!

  • I have heard the same thing- that when you hit 36 weeks or so that the numbers level off or get better. Fingers crossed thats true! My doctor hasn't mentioned this to me though personally, its just something I've come across on my own doing internet research. Congrats on the low numbers though!

  • I think mine got more challenging to manage around 34 or 35 weeks, then got much easier to manage as my due date got closer, especially after 38 weeks. It would be a good idea to make sure you're eating as many carbs as you're supposed to (salad and soup may not be quite enough) and, since you're not quite to term yet, maybe check in with your doctor. Otherwise, enjoy the lower numbers; if everything else is normal, having your glucose well controled is a very good thing.

I have type 1 diabetes, but I noticed my insulin requirements were going down - or rather, if I used the same amount of insulin, I went reeeeally low instead of "normal".

I ended up being admitted for a night in the hospital and there are signs of placental breakdown on my placenta and I'm being csectioned on Tuesday.

It doesn't always mean you'll deliver early, but definitely tell your endocrinologist (not just your OB).
