I had to post this after I saw the crotch care post. I still haven't read the article on the homepage yet.
You guys must STEAL and HOARD all of the perineal ice packs that you can get your hands on at the hospital. It was like heaven when you put a new one on. So much relief!!! They said they were going to stop giving them to me becuase you are only supposed to use them for 2 days or so. Um, I don't think so. My husband and I ransacked are room and took home all the extra we had found. Also sweet talked some othere nurses into getting us more. I promise you, this is one of the things you don't want to forget when you leave the hospital.
Re: One of the things I learned from my last labor/birth of my child
I agree that the ice packs were great, but I didn't need them after I left the hospital. I guess everyone is different though. Ibuprofen worked just find for any pain I was having. My baby was only 6 1/2 pounds...so this could be the difference. I am sure a bigger baby would = more pain!
The netting underwear though were very nice...they fit and can hold the huge pad and ice pack, and then you just throw them away! I did take a couple of these home with me!
I agree. And I also took some of those blue and white bed liner pad things home with me for my bed so if any blood did end up leaking it didn't get all over my bed. I used my leftover ones to change DD in bed sometimes.
i still have a brand new pair of the mesh undies that I saved from last time!!! mmm...love them. I didnt like the massive diapers that they handed out-i got good results with the heavy/overnight pads that I bought myself. I really loved the squirt bottle and the spray as well.

Trust me, the alternative is no picnic, either.
I didn't just take the chux pads (the disposable ones that go under your butt), I took the quilted washable hospital one, too! I went around that room snagging whatever I could get. My insurance paid something like $20-30k, so I don't think it hurt... The hospital blankets were the best size for swaddling.
I 've heard friends talk amazing about this squirt bottle.

I had to run out and buy gigantic granny panties from K-mart that seriously went over my belly button because I ran out of the mesh panties
