Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

My UO

I've been waiting all week for this.  Disclaimer:  I mean no offense to other moms, this is a personal decision.

I think taking your children to sit on Santa's lap is creepy.  Personally, the thought of taking my child (screaming or smiling) and sitting them on a strangers lap while someone takes a picture is really strange and I'd never do it.

If a relative would be willing to put on a Santa suit or happened to be the person at the mall doing it, I would absolutely sit my kid up there and take a picture.  But a stranger?  No way.

Re: My UO

  • Eh, I'm kind of with ya.  Not so much that I didn't TRY-this being the first year I would have done it with LO, but the minute we got there, I felt kind of creeped out putting her on this dude's lap.  She lasted all of 3 seconds and I didn't hesitate for a second to pull her off and call it a day.  I'm thinking maybe we'll see if Grandpa will play santa next year LOL.

PS--I don't judge others for a second for doing it, I was just raised to be hyper aware of creepy situations so I think I'm a bit uber sensitive with it.

  • Oh yeah, I don't agree with you.  I get it.. I mean I don't really know this Santa... (Although he is a friend of MIL's)So he is a "stranger"... I don't think "Stranger Danger" applies here...

I love the idea of Santa... the magic!  I can't wait to take her tomorrow to get her picture with him!   My nieces say he is the "REAL" Santa.

  • You must REALLY think I'm creepy, then. I am trying to get DS on the list of kids visiting Santa and Mrs. Claus at their private cabin. I think it will be super fun. There will be games, cookies, etc, and it's only four families at a time. Mostly I am doing it for the photo op--I want the opportunity to photograph an 18th century cabin all decked out for Christmas lol.

Oh, don't get me wrong.  I love Santa, too, and will be sharing him with my kids.   I just don't think showing him off "in person" is something that needs to be done.  I can read to them about him, tell them about him, etc without having their picture taken with him.

Eh, not my cup of tea, but like I said, I'm not judging other moms.  I can see how people would think it would be a cute idea.  Personally, I would be way to weirded out to take my kids to do that kind of thing, but to each his own.

  • I'll be letting it up to DS next year.  This year he's still a little too iffy on the stranger thing.

Its not like I'll be leaving him alone with a stranger, I'll be right there.

That being said, it creeps me out that someone would volunteer to have strange kids sit on their laps.

See, if I start thinking about it too much I start getting creeped out!

  • I feel the same way about anybody in a character costume, like at Disney. Or the damn radio station mascot bee that shows up at every local event here and sneaks up and tries to effing HUG you. It's not ok for a stranger to come pawing on your kid, why does a costume make it ok? It is just weird.
