Mom to 2 beautiful girls, 3 yrs and 22 months old. My 2nd was born at 32 weeks due to Rhogam failure/severe complications from Rh disease and is our miracle. She has bilateral auditory neuropathy and a cochlear implant, activated 4/5/2012 at 19 months.
I really, really hate this name. No reason, it just grates on my nerves. Saying that I realize other people like it, so if you like it then go for it, but spell it Silas.

2. It's a great name! I love Silas! It's easy to pronounce and spell, strong---but unique. I kind of see it as a lesser-used version of Asher. Both are Biblical and slightly obscure, but Asher seems to be gaining more popularity. We've talked about using Silas on and off. I think it's such a cool name.
James would actually be the middle name (father in law's MN). I agree that the traditional "i" spelling is the best. Also, I did spell out the pronounciation wrong- we would call him "Si-liss". I just love Silas James (nn Si). Thanks for the input!
Silas is at the top of our boy's list - LOVE it! We thought of it initially because we've been catching up on the past few seasons of Weeds... plus, I like that it is Biblical... and the meaning is good (Man of the Woods) - especially for the child of my tree-hugger husband
Re: Silas
How do you pronounce it?
it is a nice, underused name
ETA: I'd go with the Silas spelling.
I like the name, and prefer the spelling Silas...
But for pronounciation, Ive always thought it was pronounced Sy-Liss, not Sy-lass?
Good point. I have never heard it pronounced Sy-lass, only Sy-liss.
This! But I'm a book nerd, too...

I like it and agree with other posters it needs a good strong biblical middle name
