4 year shots?

THis is the first time I've felt bad about her having to get shots, before she seemed to little to get it and fear them.

What do you do before shots or to alleviate it?

I told her we'd go out to breakfast after the dr but haven't said why she gets the treat yet.

  • Now that O is older he has no fear of getting shots.  We just tell him he needs some medicine.  He'll watch them do it and everything, not a peep.  She might surprise you.
  • We just did these with Joshua and they were awful.  He got 5 plus we go back for his second flu shot.  There were lots of hugs and candy.  I gave him motrin afterwords.

  • We obviously haven't done the 4 year shots yet but we had the 3 year shots yesterday. I just hugged  and cuddled her during the shots. When we got home I gave her motrin and we snuggled and watched a movie. Her daddy got her ice cream on his way home from work. She was really worked up for a good hour but once she calmed down she was fine.

  • Motrin 30 minutes before the shots and then a follow up dose as soon as possible after (4 or 6 hours after the first; i always have to read the label).

This is Kaitlyn too.  She didn't cry at all.

  • We've been doing one shot here and there and so it honestly hasn't been bad...but at 4, they get a whole series.  Emmy had the allergy prick test last month with over 60 pricks and that thing that got her mind off of it was nerds!  I gave her a nerd for every prick and had her choose the color, etc...

When Emmy got blood work done last year and they took at least 5 tubes of blood, we gave her a lollipop to eat (I pretended to open it slowly while it was all happening so she would anticipate the lollipop versus thinking about whatt's going on).  We also told her that if she was a good girl then we would take her to builder bear right afterwards and so we kept on reminding her of it.

We also bring our own bandaid because it either had Dora or Hello Kitty and for some reason, when she's hurt, she always wants her bandaids and it makes her feel better.

  • She did great! I gave her a lollipop to open while she was getting them. And we talked about it before hand, how we could count how long it would hurt-123. She said ouch ouch ouch!! but no tears.  and when we got in the car she told me she didn't like shots. I had a serious fear of shots until I was much much older and I'm still no good at getting blood drawn so I was very proud!!
