We are so excited to finally be home with Abigail! It took a little longer than planned, but she is now home and doing well. Abigail was born on Friday, Dec. 3rd, five weeks early. She weighed in at 5 lbs 7 oz and 18'' long. Because she was early they took her to the NICU to be watched for a minimum of 24 hours.
Since she was early we had not finished all of our home study update and started scrambling to get things done. We had to have our personal interview, local background check and dcf child abuse report. On Saturday night we had our interview done, but we could not get the other two reports until Monday morning. We wanted to try and get everything done as quickly as possible so Abigail could come directly home with us and not have to go to cradle care for one or two nights.
On Saturday both Abigail and the BM were both doing well and we thought they both would be released from the hospital on Sunday. But, we really Abigail to stay in the hospital over night on Sunday, because we needed to go into the Sheriff's office first thing on Monday morning to do our background check. The nurses in the NICU were so nice and helpful they told the doctor they wanted to monitor her eating before she was discharged.
On Monday morning we ran to the sheriff's office and had our background check completed. We just needed one more report from DCF to have everything complete. Our agency was able to expedite the report and we had everything we needed by 10am. On our way to the hospital we received a call from the agency saying that Abigail was not going to be discharged because her bilirubin level had increased to 15 and they were going to treat her for jaundice.
When we returned to the hospital on Tuesday we really thought it would be the day we would take Abigail home. She was starting to eat better and her bilirubin had gone down to 11. The doctor finally made rounds at 2pm and said he wanted her to stay for one more day....arggg. The doctor wanted her to stay under the lights one more night for the jaundice.
Finally today Abigail's bilirubin level was down to 9 and the doctor thought she was good to go home! We need to watch her closely for signs of jaundice and make sure she eats well.
It was a crazy five days, but it is all worth it. We are so happy to be home with our two girls!

TTC since May 2006. After 3 failed Clomid cycles, 2 failed Injectibles/IUIs, 2 failed IVFs and 1 failed FET, we moved on to adoption!
Last ditch FET resulted in BFP, and identical twin girls!
Thank you and happy belated birthday. My birthday was on Sunday, she is the best present I could ever wish for.
Thanks so much! Our BM is about 2 hours away. So we were traveling back and forth, because we wanted to come home to Madelyn every night.
Congratulations!!
