in one storm? 38 inches from the Great Blizzard of '93! In 2002 we had 49 inches of snow from 3 storms in 10 day period.
We have no snow right now but hopefully that will change on Sunday/Monday.

My favorite verse!
Apparently there was a big on on NYE 1999, but I don't remember it at all. I do remember one in December 2000 that was a huge mess. I guess it only snowed 2 feet, but it snowed all of that in about 8 hours while I was at work downtown. It took me 4 hours to get home that night. =(
Last Christmas we got 19 inches on Christmas Eve/Day. That's the most I remember seeing out of one storm. There might have been more when I was a child but I don't remember them.
I know there's been more other times but last year when I went out to help shovel us out after a blizzard in February it was up to my waist. I'm 6 foot so that was a lot!
Last year was pretty bad...not sure the exact totals. But I know a few times DH went to shovel our drive, and with the drifting, when he opened the garage, the snow was half way up the opening.
But....my favorite mega snow memory was when I was in college. In October we had the biggest, fluffiest snow EVER. it was on a Friday and I think school was canceled because of it. I don't remember making an attempt to go to classes anyways. So, my roommates and I baked a bunch of cookies quick, then we bundled up (there was no way to drive ANYWHERE) and we hiked through the snow to some friends (guys, of course) to give them cookies. We sat over their and played board games for a few hours...then we walked home...and on the way home, there was another group of guys out walking in the snow...not sure what possessed us but we got into an impromptu snowball fight with them, lasted all of 10 minutes...then we finished walking home. It was just the perfect snow day..cookies, boardgames, snowball fights and great friend memories.
I honestly don't even know--I'd have to look online at totals. This past weekend we got a foot in one day...on top of about another foot we already had.
It takes a lot for a single storm to even register as big in my head. Those 12 inches last weekend just sort of screwed up the roads for the hours the snow was falling. Once the snow stopped, life was back to "normal."
I'm in MN so we get tons of snow, but I think the most recent memorable single storm for me was "The Great Halloween Blizzard of '91" LOL! It snowed almost 3 feet on Halloween. We've definitely gotten more than that at one time, and with accumulation there is often several feet of snow just sitting around, but it's quite unusual- even in MN!- to have snowfall in Oct, let alone 3 feet of it!
Witnessing--probably the snow the first winter in Denver--it ended up between 2-3'...but I've driven through much higher--5-6' up in the mountains w/ drifts a couple feet higher. But I didn't actually sit there & watch 5' accumulate...LOL!
Last winter was INSANE... we got multiple storms with feet of snow and it just kept piling up!! We could not drive for about 2 weeks because the plows never came (this was IN Philadelphia!)
And, the blizzard of '78 that Lari referred to. Although, I was only 4 so it's not true memory as much as it is stories and pictures of the events of that week.

My Sophmore year of college we got 5 feet of snow in one weekend... not kidding. It started snowing Friday night and didn't stop until Sunday afternoon. The National Gaurd had to come to help dig us out.
In recent memory 20" from one storm, but where our lake house is we're in the "snow belt" that comes out of the UP and I've seen 6 or 7 feet (but not that fell all at once), I know when I was a kid there were storms that dropped over 2 feet, but I don't remember those that well.
Last winter we got nearly 4ft in one storm. It was an awful winter, back to back storms and all that. At one point I measured and there was almost 5ft of snow in my back yard.

The most snowfall I've seen in a 24 hour period was between 4 and 5 feet last December. It was nuts that day.
We get an annual average snowfall of around 10 feet.
So, lots. But not as much as some for sure.

In one storm? 3+ feet when we lived in MA.
I grew up in MT though (and now am in CO) and if it stays cold the snow just piles up and up and up.

Blizzard of 1978 here in Ohio. We had 15' piles of snow on the sides of our street.
Last year in MD we had about 52" in a 3 day period.
We are probably approaching 2 feet here since Sunday.

The April Fools Blizzard for sure.
I was born in the Blizzard of '78 - There's a picture of my mom holding me next to a 8 ft snowbank outside the hospital. Does that count?
