repost: opionions on the name Gabriel

We're having such a hard time thinking of names for DS. Suggested the name Gabriel today to DH. Opinions?

I am looking for a not so common 'manly' name, and open to other suggestions.

I LOVE Gabriel, my older brother is named Gabriel! It is a very great manly not common name Great Choice!!

I love the name Gabriel!  But, after naming my dog Gabriel, I've been surprised by how many people pronounce it Gabrielle or think that Gabriel is a girl's name.

Gabriel is a nice name... but, I don't think it's very "manly" sounding.

• Curtis 
• Dexter (love this name, but won't use it due to our last name ending in "er")
• Roland
• Stone (as in Stone Phillips, the news anchor).

If my first would have been a boy he'd have been Gabriel. We had a religious meaning for it, but I like it nonetheless.

It's on our name list now again and we both have our days with it. I love the nn Gabe though, so that's why it stays. I still can't help but think Gabriel is girly sounding.

I do like it though.
