In your experience, if you have a LO that is just about 50%, which brands do you consider to be true to size? I've been talking to the other moms at day care about this and I think Carters is true to size and most of the designer brands that I buy run a little larger (except Ralph Lauren which runs small). We have disagreement over Carters but all agree that Gerber, Circo, Old Navy, Vitamins, Faded Glory and Baby Grand run small. I am planning for the winter and would love to get additional recommendations for clothing that is true to size.
Re: Let's try this again :-)
C is only about 30th percentile, so he's still in some of his 12 mo stuff, even at nearly 14 months.
I've found Carters are fairly good. Same with Okie Dokie (that's either Kohl's or Penney's store brand.. can't recall). Gymboree also sizes things in 6 month increments, so they tend to wear longer. (Ex--12-18 month sizing)

My 2? is:
Carter's runs true to size.
Old Navy runs somewhat small (but not terribly).
Gap runs true to size (though the Junk Food onesies are a bit large).
Children's Place runs small (even people who work there say that)
Gymboree runs true to size (not that I have much from them)
Ralph Lauren runs small
Aaron is in the 90th% for height and 75th for weight. He's JUST on the borderline of 18 and 24 month clothing. It depends on the clothes (most 24 month pants are too big, but the shirts are OK). But for the most part I've found that the size ranges given by the manufacturers are pretty close.
Edited to add: Yeah, Gerber runs small and I never bought any after my bad experience with shrinkage. And DS got some Faded Glory clothes (24 month size) that are still too big on him, so I DON'T think they run small.

L is 45% for weight and 60% for height...
The Gerber items that we have gotten were WAY small for size. Teeny. After the first batch we bought we swore off them.
Target has been pretty good size-wise, but I dislike how tight the arms and legs are on their pj's. They're long enough, but so fitted that its hard to get his arms and legs all the way in when he is wiggling. He still fits a lot of his 9m clothes from there and all of his 12m, but we are buying 18m for anything new.
Carters has been fine, no issues, but no raves either. He is wearing 12-18 there depending on the item.
I like Children's Place. The items we've gotten have been good quality but he is wearing a size or two up in them (12-18m right now).
Old Navy is cute, but its very hit or miss. L is fairly tall, but most of the legs on the ON pants have to be cuffed for him. All of the socks we've gotten there have fallen apart. Every pair has elastic that is coming out or stretched out. Their sweaters and shirts have held up very well though, and we wash and dry the sweaters all the time! L is wearing 9m pants and 12-18 tops from there.
Even though Gap is the same parent company as ON, their quality seems a lot higher. The clothes he has from there are better proportioned and he is in 12m there...
Wal-mart brand (American something-or-other) is the opposite of ON, pants wise. All of the pants he has from there are high-waters. The tops and fleece pullovers have held up wonderfully, but the pants are way short! He is in 9-12m tops and 18-24m pants there.
I think for the 50%-ers and under, esp. the very lean ones, Gerber runs "true" - but they run much smaller than most other brands which accomodate kids over 50% - which seems like is most every other kid so most parents consider them to run small.
However, Gerber is my least favorite brand. I think the material they use tends to be thinner and the sleepers (at least the ones my MIL got us) are scratchy and dont' wear well.
