Babies on the Brain

Phlegm question. Post and run, will check back later.

So I've had a cold for the last week. This morning I started blowing out and coughing up green phlegm. Does that always indicate an infection? Should I go to the dr or just ride it out? I don't have a fever, or anything else, just a stuffy nose and cough.

  • I've always functioned on the basis that green anything is not good.  I would go to the dr.

  • Green phlegm always accompanies my colds. I usually don't go to the dr. unless it lasts for longer than two weeks.

This for me.  Particularly in the morning.  It normally turns clearer as the day goes on.

  • From what I have read, it comes at the end of sinus infections or other stuff..  I would say maybe you are getting better?

  • It does not always mean infection, but if you've been sick longer than 7 days and it's still going strong, OR if you got better and it returned in some fashion before completely getting better, then go see a doctor.

  • if it's green, I call the dr.

Side note a lady was telling a story of what her old co-worker brought to work once (at a different job). A 6 pack of wine coolers and said it's to help bring the phlem up.  That's one way to try to drink on the job. Needless to say, that co-worker got sent home.
