PG and problems with food textures

I'm having a problem with food textures, and I've never encountered this before, so I need a little help.

Before I was pregnant, I could eat anything without worry about textures. In my first trimester, same thing. For some reason in the past month I've gotten sick 4 times because of textures. One was Thanksgiving and it was the turkey, then it was a tuna sandwich, then ravioli and the most recent was a hamburger. I am noticing that the foods are a little softer and therefore that might have something to do with my problem with textures, but I'm getting a little weirded out.

I have a doctor's appt on the 17th and I plan to talk to her then about it, but I'm not sure if this is a pregnancy thing or if I'm developing this because of something else not health related.

  • I think it is a pregnancy thing.  In both pregnancies I've had texture issues - mainly with yogurt but a few other things have set me off as well.  I'll be fine through most of it and then there is one bite that causes the me to gag and I either have to force down the food in my mouth or spit it out and then just stop eating whatever it was that set me off.

  • My food aversion during my pregnancy was with meat, and it had a lot to do with texture and smell.

Hope it is just a pregnancy related thing for you too.  and yay for 21 weeks already!

  • It sounds very likely pregnancy related. Sorry you are having that issue. I hope it improves in the third tri. Yay for 21 weeks!!! So happy for you.

  • My biggest problem was with textures and smells of foods especially the end of the 1st tri- begining of the 2nd tri. Hang in there. I ended up living off salad and steak (the only meat I could eat without feeling ill) for weeks!
