DH and I both like Coder nn Cody for a boy. (It's a German name) Opinions?
I was thinking of Coder Alexander. But the "er" ending might be a bit much.
Also, we've agreed on Adriana as a middlename for a girl...problem is a first name.
Last name is Pavelsek. Any suggestions?
I only have: Lacey Adriana so far, but I haven't asked him his opinion yet.
Re: Coder for a boy and Adriana as a middle name
I'm not a fan of Coder at all. Behind the Name doesn't even have it listed...are you sure it's a real German name?
I like Alexander and Adriana is "just ok". I don't really like it, but there's nothing wrong with it.
I hate the name Lacey, it sounds kind of trailer-parky to me. Sorry. That's the image I get.
Thumbs down.
While it's nice that you've picked a German name, you don't live in Germany. So your boy's name is gonna be perceived as weird.
And using Cody as a nickname is kinda strange, too. Same number of syllables, so where's the "savings" that a nickname generally gives you? If you plan to call him Cody, name him that. Don't make it more confusing for the poor kid.
The only thing I could find about Coder is that it's a surname.
And have to say - don't like it.
I really am trying to visualize myself calling someone "Coder" and it just does not roll off the tongue at all. It's very awkward.
And in the U.S., "Coder" is someone who works a billing coder or computer programmer.

Yes ma'am.
Yeah, Lacey was iffy for me too but it was the only one I had (so far) that flowed with Adriana.
Ew. Sounds like a term they'd use on Grey's Anatomy. "GOT A CODER IN HERE!"
There are plenty of great German names, I'd skip this one.

And ditto.

Maybe it's the C++ nerd in me, but I'm actually not hating Coder. I wouldn't worry about the two names ending in "er"; very, very rarely do we ever use DS's full name.
I'm not a fan of Lacey though. It's a little dated (reminds me of the 80's and those gawdawful fingerless gloves everyone was wearing).
Plus, it's such a different style from Coder that I just can't see the two of them together. I had a friend in HS whose name was Damon and his sister was Jessica (a case of the dad picks the boy's name and the mom picks the girl's). She hated that he got the more unique name and she had to one of several in her class. I think you should stick with something similar to Coder, like Lisbeth
Coder definitely makes me think "software engineer." But, hey, people are wild for the other professional names ? Cooper, Tanner, etc. ? so I guess it was only a matter of time.
Unless it's a family name, I give it a big thumbs down. If it is a family name, I give it a little thumbs down.
Have you considered Conrad, Colter, Corbett, or Conlan?

DH actually suggested Damon earlier. :P
That's actually a big concern of mine. I've crossed off names because of it. Thank you for pointing that out.

Cody is on our list too.
Agree with this.
to me coder= HTMLer
Eh....
Coder actually sounds to me like a NN middle school or high school boys would give to someone named Cody. My sister graduated with a Cody who was sometims called, "the Code Man." Coder's really not that much of a stretch. It just kind of has that ridiculous NN vibe to it.
Lacey is very dated and, yes, a little trashy. I don't like it.
Alexander and Adriana, however, are great names. Why not use them as FNs?
Oh I try to support ethnic names because they are meaningful, but I do not like Coder at all! Why not name him Cody and call him Coder or Coders in your house? Are you German, like first/second generation...because thats a little different.
I looked it up to see if I could defend it for its meaning, but I can't find it.
