Organzing your twin baby clothes, Help!

Hey everyone,

I am currently 26.5 weeks pregnant with boy girl twins. I am trying to get organized before their arrival. I wanted to see how you organize your twins clothes. We only are able to afford one dresser right now. I have categories of:

Girl: onesies, pajamas, socks, accessories

Boy:  onesies, pajamas, socks, accessories

Both: Bibs, blankets, burp clothes

Pictures would be a huge help!! Thanks for your help!

Re: Organzing your twin baby clothes, Help!

  • i don't see a need for bibs and burp cloths to be in a drawer... we kept those downstairs in a big basket and in their room in this thing that hung on the door- you want them in easy/quick reach - with your hands full of baby - so you can grab more when you are being puked all over :)

blankets and sleep sacks/swaddle blankets we keep in a toy chest between their cribs. (along with sheets, too)

i have one big drawer for PJs - each baby has theirs on one side (my boys are in different sizes).

Each baby has a drawer for their pants and shirts that don't have a matching pair that are in that baby's size.

in their wardrobe i have a little basket for each of their onsies.... 2 little slide out drawers for socks (they are plastic ones i got at target)... I hang nice clothes, and fold regular stuff - everything else in there on the shelves are matching outfits that they have.

I have a basket that i keep shoes in, too.

On top of the wardrobe i have 2 large storage box type things (from Ikea) that i keep sweatshirts/pants in- since they tend to take up a lot of room and we don't use them that often.

you'll find what works for you... i changed it around a few times before getting my own system going.

  • We have a dresser and a closet (honestly, I'm too lazy to fold everything)  We have hanging stuff in order by size and then gender (we have a lot of gender neutral, so its B/G/N)  In the drawers we have

1st: DS's stuff: outfits, boy socks, accessories (bowtie, clip on, etc)

2nd: DD's stuff: outfits, girl socks, leggings, accessories (hair bows/bands)

3rd: Neutral stuff: neutral outfits, the infinite pile of white socks, neutral hats

Bibs, Blankets, Burp clothes, and a good majority of the PJs are kept in the living room with the other diaper changer: quick access during feeding, emergency clothes changes, after-bath dressing, etc)

I'd take pics......but its laundry day....and its been a long, rainy week....

  • IKEA makes some great, cheap drawer organizers (komplement is the name I think?) that I use.  Also, I only keep clothes that currently fit the babies in our one dresser.  All the clothes that are still too big are in fabric bins on the shelves in the closet, organized by size.  Then, when the babies are outgrowing their current size, I just swap them out.

I have one drawer dedicated to onesies and pants, another drawer has pajamas and bibs, and the last drawer has burp clothes, towels, wash cloths, etc.  I wanted everything I used on a daily basis in the dresser so everyone who helped me could find what they needed.  Everything else is in the closet.

You'll figure out what works for you.

  • All 4 of my kids share a room (we only planned on 2 kids) and we don't use dressers.  Clothes are hung in the closet, left to right: Boy, twin girls, toddler girl.  Then I have a hanging shoe rack and a hanging sweater rack.  In the shoe rack I have bins (from the Container store).  Top to bottom: Girl onesies, girl onesies, boy onesies, girl socks, boy socks, big girl panties, big girl socks.  The sweater organizer has bins that fit perfectly into it (BRU).  In each I have burp cloths, bibs, boy clothes (that are worn more often that I don't want to hang), girl clothes, big girl jammies, big girl pants.  Blankets and sheets are folded and stored under the cribs.

The ONLY clothes in the closet are clothes that are current size.  I have big plastic totes that are labeled 9mo, 12mo, 18mo, etc in a storage room.  When I buy clothes or get hand-me-downs or when my toddler out grows her clothes they go into these totes until the babies can fit into them.  The same goes for shoes.  The totes also help be decide what I need more of and I buy off-season clothes on clearance with a coupon.  My toddler now has bins with larger sizes for her to grow into because I'm buying her stuff at killer deals a season ahead.

  • I put a bookshelf similar to the ikea expedit in their closet and put cubbies in the bookshelf that hold things like spare sheets/bedding, bibs, toys, and receiving blankets.

They each have a crib skirt and I got two storage containers like these: https://bit.ly/h3dafb to hold their 3 month and up clothes that we were gifted. I put the containers under their cribs and the skirts hide them completely.

Then in their dresser they each have two drawers - one for newborn clothes and one for 0-3 month/3 month clothes. I didn't separate the clothing by type. Just by gender and size.

I did however get hangers for any three piece sets that they have and I put that stuff in the closet, just in case my husband has to get them dressed for a pediatrician appointment or something. This way their "outfits" were already assembled. But that's mainly so he doesn't take them out of the house in pajamas or sleep sacks. With him you never know ;)

I find that if you "want" one more, you get 2....and if you "only have space" for one more, you get 3......but you def have the right idea there!  I have a nephew 6mo older than my twins, and and a friend's daughter who is 8mo older....so we've been lucky to not have to spend a fortune on clothes

Well, if someone would have told me that I might have rethought this whole 2 kids thing ;)  Hand-me-downs are gold!

Haha, but then you wouldn't have those three adorable, smiling faces to look at each morning!

And yes, hand-me-downs are awesome...my wife and I have literally only bought about 5 outfits per twin this entire first year (between hand-me-downs and about 75 friends attending our surprise baby shower, we were covered!)

now....if only the Army would acknowledge our awesomeness and put us in one of those nice big houses where the Generals live....my kids are Rockstars, and should be treated like so.......why else would I have to bring them warm milk in bed every morning?

  • We have 1 dresser that doubles as a changer. Plus a closet in the nursery. That's it. In the dresser I keep diapers & wipes, changing pad covers, burp cloths/receiving blankets and thicker blankets. I got that wire closet organizer system they sell at home depot and made my own organizer system. On the left side of the closet I have 3 hanging bars. On the right side is all shelves. The hanging bars also have shelves. This pic is from before they were born so it's changed a little but you can see what I did. In the boxes I keep bibs (but actually I've kept that in the room I normally feed them in), another is nursing supplies, one is toys, and one for little things like pacifiers & teethers. Blankets are now on the shelves, along with sleep sacks and onesies. In the white drawers I have socks, white onesies (aka "underwear"), and hats. The top shelf is too high to be seen in the pic. Up there I keep stuff I don't need-- small bottles & nipples they've outgrown, etc. I keep in this closet the size of clothes they actually wear + the next size up. Everything else is in storage bins in the basement.
