TTC after 35

ugh ... FSH of 16!!!!

went to my RE on friday for a next steps consultation.  have done 3 clomid cycles ... doc suggested 1-3 injectable/iui cycles and then IVF.

but when we were discussing my last clomid cycle, she said my fsh was 16!!!  16!!!! it has always been normal ... i was totally shocked.  doc didn't seem too worried, and said that fsh fluctuates ... but really, 16!!

i don't feel too old to have another baby, and i don't look too old ... it is just so weird that my eggs are too old.  this sucks.

anyway, our current insurance covers IVF  -  but dh is likely going to change jobs in the next few months, so i think that we are going to do 1 injectable cycle while getting 'ready' for an IVF ... i don't want to waste anymore time.

16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: ugh ... FSH of 16!!!!

  • That stinks but it is true that it can fluctuate and that it's one predictor of many. So a single high number isn't a sentence. Sounds like you have a good plan... hang in there!

  • So sorry that you got that number. That is totally my concern per my earlier post over the weekend.  The good news is that your ins covers IVF!  LOL at you don't look old!! I still think I'm 25... Seriously, fertility is wasted on the young, right? Hang in there:-)

  • look you old hag...;-)

I hope it was just a fluke.  Will they test it again?  Mine a year ago was 10.2, I'm curious what it is now after a year of IF meds.  I bet I've used up crazy proportions of FSH ;-)  Well that's how I like to think of it.

  • I got similar news when I tested at a 19!  Too high even for injectables and told that donor eggs were my best option.  I was shocked, and also told that there was nothing I could do to lower it.  I didn't accept that since I take a lot of pride in keeping healthy and fit.

I did some research and found a lot of posts saying that wheatgrass can help to lower FSH.  Given that it wouldn't hurt to try, I started religiously drinking wheatgrass ( bought the powder form).

The next month I had a 15.2, the month after that 14 and this past cycle I was a 12.  I know it fluctuates and so it is possible the wheatgrass is doing nothing but so far, I'm going to take the test results word for it and keep going.  Next month I am on to IUI cycle #2, cycle #1 ended in chemical pregnancy.
