I am trying to figure something out for a friend who thinks she is pg. She has consistently short cycles - 22 days and is ttc. She *thinks* she might get a BFP but is wondering if the "up to 5 days before your missed period" tests apply to someone with that short of a cycle. She just really wants to test but doesn't want if her levels won't yet show up.
I have no experience with this so don't have any "wisdom" to give her! I'll also post on the ttc board but wanted to start here as I am 22 weeks with baby #2 and an occasional lurker (when I need some info or a sanity check).
Re: short cycles & BFP?
I have short cycles (25-26 days) and the testing up to 5 days before your missed period wasn't true for me.
My LP is only 9 days and I was 11 dpo before I got my BFP with this pregnancy, so I had already missed my period by 2 days. I started testing at 8dpo but got negatives until 11.
My cycles were 25 days and I tested 1 day before I was due (so, day 24) and got a faint line, but it was definately there.
I was getting short LP 9-10 days. I got BFP on 10DPO. Is she charting?Tell her to buy a cheap internet sticks. Wondolf has them for like 6 bucks for 25.

I had normal length cycles (28 days), but O'd between days 18-20, with an 8-10 day LP. When I got the BFP, I tested two days before I missed my period and got a negative and then tested the day my period was supposed to come and got the tiniest faint positive. I don't think 5 days early really works for many people, let alone someone with short cycles.
If she doesn't get a BFP this cycle, she should start charting. Charting helped me to understand so much more about my body.
My cycles were always short, the 2 months before my BFP were 20 days and 21 days. I tested the week before my period was "due" and nothing even after 21 days. I turns out (based on my first ultrasound) that the cycle when we concieved my cylce was around 26-28 days.
