So this morning at my CD 10 ultrasound my RE managed to convince me and DH -- again! -- that it's really not worth doing a 2nd IUI on Tuesday morning. He ran a lot of numbers/statistics by us, but the bottom line, as he put it, is that he "can't sleep at night thinking about how to make percentages work one way or another to give people a better chance" and that if he felt there was a way to up our chances, he'd be the first to tell us about it. That looks obnoxious written out, but it was actually really genuine on his part (young guy, really smart, I really like him).
This time I actually believe him, not just because of the sincerity but because this time I've got one 20 mm follicle (!! that's never happened before on CD 10 !!) and then one at 11 mm and another at 13 mm. The RE is hoping to get at least the 13 one up to 15 by the time I trigger tomorrow afternoon, with the IUI on Monday morning. He didn't think so, but I'm wondering if the 20 mm might not go before then...at any rate, I think this time Tuesday morning might be too late, even though I usually ovulate 40 hrs after the trigger. So I'm good with this plan -- especially since DH can be here for the Monday IUI . The RE and I did agree that if this doesn't work, we'll do something extra for the next (and last) before we move on to IVF.
Onward and upward--and with fingers crossed for Monday!
Re: foiled!
Wow 20 mm! And a 11 and 13... You are looking good girl. Let us know how it goes. Really happy for you that DH can be with you at IUI time! Sounds like everything is coming together nicely.
ETA: FWIW I believe that your RE is kept up at night thinking of ways to increase the odds. I think OB's and RE's are inherently caring individuals. Sounds like you have a good one too!
Thanx! I hope it's not too frustrating for you being "out" at the moment -- how's recovery btw?
Of course, that fact that this cycle is "different" than the others -- that one big follicle rather than 3 about the same size on CD 10 (when they've usually been things like 16, 14, 14) gives me weird but I guess not unexpected hope -- i.e., the other way hasn't worked, so maybe this difference will be the difference. Except I'm getting used to the fact that w/IUIs it's all often false hope.
I wonder what happens if the 20 mm one releases before I trigger in a few hours. Would the other two (or at least the 13 mm one) still release after the trigger sometime? DH (who got in Friday) and I have been sure to BD (once Friday, once yesterday) to be sure a) he's got fresh "stuff" for Monday and b) we're covered in case the big one goes before the IUI. Today is our day of abstinence -- how fitting for a Sunday....
Hey Coop, funny you should ask. I was just going to write up a post about how frustrating it is to be out a cycle. And with the results of my low progesterone and MH's S/A, I feel like we dont have much of a chance until we see the RE... in Feb. Ugh.
Buuuut, about you! I'm excited for your 20mm. I'm no expert but I would guess that if you trigger (and the 20'er had already released) that the other follies would be released and on their way to be sperminated.
Glad you and your DH have the weekend together. Enjoy it!!
