Dress code for a viewing?

What dress code do you wear to a viewing of a non-family member? Friends of ours grandmother passed away, and her viewing is tomm night. I was going to wear black pants, gray sweater, black boots. Our other circle of friends are wearing jeans and sweaters. What do you consider appropriate? Just curious.

Re: Dress code for a viewing?

  • My old answer to this question would have been whatever you would wear to Sunday Mass, but since for some reason shorts and jeans seem to have become accepted Church attire around here, I'd say go with something Business Casual. I went to a Viewing last week and wore grey pinstriped slacks and a light weight sweater. I think that the outfit that you described will be fine.

ETA: And call me stuffy, but I do not think that jeans are at all appropriate for a viewing.

  • We are on the same page. I wouldnt wear jeans to church or a viewing, but thats just me. I was just curious as to what people thought.

  • I will say though, I do try to generally always be put together. I was actually told today that I looked very "proper". Apparently I was overdressed at the restaurant where friend and I went to lunch. LOL

  • I wouldn't wear jeans either.  I think the outfit you mentioned sounds perfect.  I'm sorry for your loss.
