My DH and I just found out we are having twins. We always knew if it was a boy he would be named Tyrus Reginald. Now we might need two boy names. DH wants to do both names with a T but I'm not a fan. We both love the name Colton but he says he would rather use another T name because Tyrus and Colton don't "flow well together." What do you think?
Also, for girls, we have decided on Abeni (an African name meaning we prayed for her and now she is ours) because we love the meaning so much. But DH thinks if we have two girls it would be wrong to give one that name because it has so much meaning to us, and just pick a name we like for the second girl. Thoughts?
Re: Twins name help
While I agree with your DH that Tyrus and Colton aren't the same style of names, I don't think that twin names need to be super matchy-matchy
To me, Tyrus sounds more jazzy and unique while Colton is trendier and has a more country western feel. So if you were already set on Tyrus, then maybe something more like Dante, Darius, Isaiah, or Omar?
Abeni is beautiful - and I think you have plenty of time to find something equally as meaningful to you. Maybe instead of focusing on names with a translated meaning, what about family names or historic names that have a different type of meaning behind them?
I think Tyrus and Colton sounds great together - not to mention, they shouldn't have to flow together because they're brothers, not a matched set of shoes, kwim?
As for a sister for Abeni - and I think you should keep Abeni - you can find an equally meaningful baby name for the other little girl. Who knows? You might end up with a boy and a girl and not even have this issue.
I did a bit of a search for suggestions...
Nia - it means purpose. I think this would make sense because Nia (if this is the name you choose) was meant to be and is just as purposeful and wanted as her sister. I kind of went with this same theme for the next several names.
Abayomi - Born to bring me joy
Dafina - Swahili, Valuable/ Precious
Nafia - Swahili, Gift
Monifa - Yoruba, I am lucky
Adnan - Swahili, Good Fortune
Oni - Prayed for
Noni - Gift of God
Aziza - Swahili, Precious

I think Tyrus and Colton go okay together. Although I do kinda like the idea of the twins names flowing better. That being said, I am not saying name the other twin a T name if it is a boy.
As for girls names I think you have enough time to find a name with as much meaning for another little girl as Abeni has for you. I would stick with Abeni and look for another name for the other twin.
I think it's silly to name twins with the same first letter just because they're twins. That's simply not a good enough reason. Almost as bad as rhyming twin names. Yuck!
I do see your DH's point, however on the girls name. We have had a similar discussion here when thinking about the possibility of twins or even just siblings. I'm a professional environmentalist and we chose an amazingly meaningful name for a girl that means Earth. That's a really big meaning. Naming another girl a nature name like Lily or Brooke would be so much smaller. One kid is named after the entire earth and the other is just an aspect of it, you know? So we had to pick a second girls name that can stand up to the hugeness of the earth name. We picked one that means Time.
So you may want to think about how another girl may feel if you give one girl such a meaningful name.
I'm not a fan of matchy-matchy names for twins or same first letter.
We plan to pick 2 names that we like, not try to coordinate them. I want to treat my boys like Individuals, not Twins.
I like twin names that coordinate, not really matchy or rhyming. But LOTS of twins have names that start with the same letter and still have names that are individual enough. NMS though.
For me it's better the names have the same feel. I agree with pp's analysis that Tyrus is more "jazzy" and Colton is more rugged.
You could end up with b/g twins. Since you are thinking of names that are SO different depending on gender, and some with big meaning, it might be best to wait till you find out gender. It will really help you narrow it down.
