I complained on another board about the outrageous shipping costs for a thing of nail polish, stickers and remover.
Well, this explains it.
This is the huge box I received today:
this was how much paper was stuffed into the box:
this was wrapped around a bottle nail polish that is slightly smaller than your standard bottle:
this is how much room the actual products took up in the box:
Not only could I have saved almost 6 dollars in shipping, from a store called EcoMom that focuses on being an eco-friendly shop, I find this incredibily hypocritical and counterproductive.and yes, I will be emailing the company...but I thought you might all be interested too.
Re: epic fail. The ecomom.com version
i actually may have an explaination. depending on the contents of the nail polish and the remover, they may have been required by law to ship ground and not air, and that may have affected the packing decisions.
i agree that the oversized box is ridiculous though. you'd think they would at least go with like the cornstarch peanuts or something, too.
could be, but if you order directly from piggy paint, they ship USPS...so I'd have a hard time believing ecomom couldn't have too. In fact, piggy paint will shove as many nail polishes and removers as they can into one flat rate envelope/box to avoid high shipping costs.
this is the email I just sent, as they only have a contact us form and not an email address.
I was extremely disappointed to receive my order today. I was very very unhappy when I saw it was going to cost more than 10 dollars to ship my order of 1 piggy paint, 1 remover and 1 set of nail stickers. Something which, at the very least would have fit into a small flat rate box that costs 4.90 to ship.
I was beyond shocked to get a box that measured about 8 inches by 8 inches, stuffed to the gills with paper. Not only that, but the paper wrapped around the nail polish itself was ridiculously huge.
I would love to send pictures of my package, so you can see just how much waste there really was, but there is no way to attach them here. I found it to be very hypocritical and counterproductive to what this website claims is an eco-friendly shop.
Due to the waste and excessive shipping costs, I will not be a returning customer. I can get 15 bottles of piggy paint and 2 bottles of remover shipped directly from piggy paint and not only pay less, but also have much more ecofriendly packaging.

yeah, that doesn't make sense as to why they wouldn't do the same - i mean priority flat rate boxes are FREE from the post office, delivered to your door. that sucks
The owner of the company just called me.
He apologized for my experience, and whoever suggested they ran out of boxes was right. He did seem to be genuinely sorry for the waste and my experience.
He didn't have a great explanation for their USPS rate. I picked fedex because it was 10.05 to ship them vs 9.15 for USPS. I figured fedex loses less packages, so for less than a dollar, I'd take the tracking and stuff. There is no way my order should have been 9.15 to ship via USPS.

I know this. However, the USPS rate is the one that makes no sense. My order would have fit in a small flat rate, and even in the box I got, it would not have been 9 dollars.
