Has anyone pureed/frozen their own apples (and pears) for your LO? I was going to make some today, but a friend told me they turn brown and don't puree or freeze well (and just to buy apple sauce).
I've been making all of DS's food so I'd rather keep doing that.....anyone make apples and have them turn out ok?
(I've already checked wholesomebabyfood...they said it could brown, but didn't say anything about it not freezing/defrosting well).
Re: pureeing/freezing apples
This. Also, I did just buy applesauce from the store. I just looked for unsweetened organic applesauce. Because it was unsweetened it was a bit tart for Luke, but he still really liked it.
The only time I had some turn brown was when I was doing a HUGE batch. So some of the pealed apples and pears started to turn while I pealed the rest. To stop that, I put the pealed ones in a pot of water while I continued to peal. Worked like a charm.
Apple/Pear sauce is DD's favorite.
Thanks - I'm making a pretty large batch so I'll try this! Maybe my friend let them sit out unpeeled for too long or something...or didn't freeze it right away.
