I haven't used them for night but I don't think they'd hold up very well. I didn't care for my Flips and got rid of them but a friend of mine uses Flips a lot - they make up at least 80% of her stash. She can't use them for night because LO pees out of them every single time. She uses pockets for night.
Before she buys a bunch, I would tell her to get one or two to try and see how she likes them. If they don't work for night, she could just get a couple pockets for night and use Flips during the day. That would still keep costs down. HTH!
I've used them at night with double the inserts. I don't recommend relying on that, though. It's hit and miss. If she's short on cash, she should check our kijiji, craigslist, etc.
Basically, I don't like the flips for DD because she is a heavy wetter. I'm sure you can try them with double inserts...maybe a prefold would work instead of two inserts as well. I use a pocket diaper and I double stuff that for DD. She still leaks through once a night (yes its on correctly, she's just that heavy of a wetter). I found the flip annoying for several reasons but mostly because you are supposed to be able to use the cover many times and simply change the insert, but with DD the cover would get soaked whenever she peed so I'd have to change the cover and the diaper whic is pretty pointless when the idea is to save money and time by reusing the same cover. Naptime with them (even double inserts in them) was horrible. She'd wake up crying after 20min because she peed through them and be too upset to go back to sleep after the change. At naptime we use a single-stuffed pocket diaper and she does not leak through (even during a 2.5hr nap which happens on occassion).
So all in all, give it a try, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't work. pockets work great as does double stuffing them
A Flip cover with the organic insert is all I use at night. We've never had a leak...not once. I will add my son isn't a heavy nighttime wetter, so for a super soaker it may not be as reliable, but we love it!

just a thought...if she's short on cash she can also try:
new diapers:
kawaii, nubunz, gogreen pockets, even ebay
used diapers:
nickisdiapers.com, cotton babies resell board, and ebay (but be careful here that you read the description of the diapers and ask for detailed pictures).
Also, prefolds with covers during the day would be cheap and a few pockets at night. Nubunz and Kawaii give two inserts for each diaper you order so its great for double-stuffing at night if needed (as I stated above that we have to do)
I've heard nothing but good reviews about comfyrumps pocket diapers. They are based in Canada and charge 8.75 canadian dollars per diaper. A lot of people compare them to fuzzibunz. I'll be trying them out soon!
I have used my flips with the organic inserts for overnight since we started cd-ing. At one point ds was a super wetter, so we layered a hemp insert or a mf insert under the folded organic insert. No leaks since. I think they work just great overnight.

DS is wearing a flip right now for overnight. We use the stay dry insert with an AFFF underneath and sometimes a hemp doubler under that. It's bulky but when he wakes up he's dry, his skin isn't even damp. Our other nighttime solution is the BG OS pockets stuffed with the same combo. If I haven't prestuffed a pocket for night, we use the flips. FWIW, we have a night tummy sleeper, so he doesn't move around a lot. And we've never had to deal with a poop in a flip (for some reason, knock on wood) but I would assume it would get on the cover and the cover would need to be changed, so keep that in mind.

I just reviewed Flips in my new blog: https://adventuresofmommys.blogspot.com/
(yes, shameless pushing, I know).
