Cloth Diapering

AI2's

Can someone please explain the appeal of hybrid diapers to me? I feel like I must be missing something, because they're so popular. I know they're advertised as being easier, but I just don't get it.

Aren't they basically like using a prefold or fitted with a cover if you use the cloth inserts?

  • The main reason we got Flips was for travel.  During the summer we can be on the road almost every weekend and taking pockets was insane...they took up half the car!  It's so much easier to take a few covers and a stack of the inserts.  We don't use the disposable ones....but I do have a pack if the mood ever strikes.

  • I've only tried GroVia and Softbums so far as Ai2s go, but I really like the Softbums. Not a fan of Grovia, although they're cute.

The appeal is that they take up less room in the diaper bag, so they're a pretty good diaper bag diaper. I love my Softbums, although I don't really have much luck reusing the shell. If she poops, it WILL be all over the shell. But it's a great fitting diaper. I have an Omni, which can be used as a pocket too,

  • Having the option of cloth or bio-friendly disposable inserts is the pro of AI2s.  If you use the bio inserts, you can travel and still CD w/o having to bring an extra suitcase just for your stash.  They also work well for long days at theme parks, beach, etc.
