Hi.
I'm just trying to work out what I need to buy for baby, and am wondering what I need to get in terms of clothing ready for baby's arrival. Most sites I look at suggest various numbers of sleepsuits, onesies etc., but living in Hawaii I'm assuming the baby would mostly just need onesies? Does anyone have a suggestion of how much to buy, and in what sizes? What do your babies sleep in at night, and what do they wear in the day?
I'd be grateful for any advice!
Thanks.
Re: what clothes for newborn?
Hi there and welcome to the board! OMG, I have a lot of 0-3 month onesies, sleep 'n plays, a couple of gowns and some long-sleeved onesies and I'm not sure I'll use much of it.
To be quite honest, LO has been living in his diapers and short-sleeved side snap t-shirts, day and night. We got some of the Gerber 0-3 months (they run really small) and he's now in Carter's 0-3 months. He's only worn onesies a couple of times when we ran errands and visited with the ILs. He tends to get sweaty in onesies and has developed a little bit of heat rash. He sleeps in his side snap shirts and SwaddleMe blanket. It works for us for now.
I live in Mililani so it's pretty cool, but not cold enough to wear much more than what I mentioned above. It may get cooler later this month and early next year, but he may be a size larger by then.
HTH!
We don't live in HI, but all I have to say after going through it all (and LO was born late spring so the weather was warm) is that I wish we just had those snap-on shirts and zippered footed pajamas. They're the easiest to take off and change diapers with than anything else. Onesies are good for changing diapers but if your LO ends up spitting up as much as mine did, it's much easier to change those snap-on shirts.
We got newborn or 0-3 sizes and we had at least a dozen snap-on shirts. We probably only used each onesie that we had once before he grew out of them.
For sleeping, we also used a miracle blanket when he was a newborn and then zippered sleep sacks after he refused to be swaddled at 6 weeks old. If it was hot, he'd only have his diaper and snap-on shirt (short-sleeve) under the sleep sack (which was sleeveless).
GL!
We used onesies a lot and didn't have even one of those side snapped shirts. I guess it's just personal preference. I suggest not buying any until you have your baby shower because people will buy you tons of clothes. Also, don't buy newborn stuff. Baby may never fit them. My daughter was 8lbs 4oz at birth so she was too big for newborn stuff! 0-3 months are good. But even then they outgrow them so fast!
When we were in Hawaii, she just wore a onesie to sleep and the SwaddleMe blanket. I love the zip up footed pajamas (sleep n plays) for when it's cooler, though. And when they're not swaddled anymore. She mostly wore onesies during the day, too. Or if it's cold and we're just at home, I just keep her in her pajamas.
