Healthy Gain Check-in!!

Happy Friday ladies! On Fridays we will be posting the exercise portion of the Healthy Gain check-in.

So, what have you done this week to stay fit? What are your plans for the coming week?

This week I have been working on strengthening my core. I have mixed it up with cardio, and I have been trying to go on long walks once a day. I haven't had to change my routine at all yet, which is nice!

I ordered Lindsay Brin's Complete Pregnancy Workout DVD's, and they should be here today! I am very excited to start those!

Let's hear about how you have all been doing, or what you would like to start.

Re: Healthy Gain Check-in!!

  • I WAS training for a marathon in March of 2011.  But this week, instead of training for the race (or doing any exercise whatsoever), I sat around and nervously stared at pee sticks.

Starting tomorrow, I am getting back on the exercise bandwagon.  I am going to start running again, wearing my husband's heart rate monitor, and keeping my perceived exertion at a mild level.

  • I have not worked out ONCE since my BFP! Horrible, I know! Tomorrow that all ends, I have a workout buddy (who is not KU) and we both agreed that we are going to get back on the bandwagon. Yay! I know I will feel a lot better once I start working out again.

Fortunately, due to good eating this week I have lost two of the lbs. I gained on vacation last week.

That's great! Running is such a good form of exercise!

That's good that you have a workout buddy. I always seem to push harder when I have someone to hold me accountable. Great job on the  healthy eating!

  • I went to yoga tuesday and ballet class yesterday.  I am a big fan of hot yoga which is not great for the baby so I may fall back on that and start doing more cardio instead.

  • I also have been a bit of a lazy bum this week... plan on hitting the treadmill again starting this weekend to get back into it.  I have to say for the last month or so I have been a bit of a slacker!

  • I haven't exercised at all since my BFP!  I'd like to get into some prenatal yoga.  The gym here on base has some yoga classes that I'd like to start going to, i just need to figure out how I'm going to fit it into my schedule.
  • i've been to the gym three times this week - did the bike for 40 mins each time.  I'm hoping to up the # of days i go.
  • This is a great idea! I'm going to keep up with my jazz class as long as I can.

  • This week I did some yoga and cardio.  The cardio kicked my butt, so I guess I'm going to have to take it down a notch.
  • I'm so glad that we are doing these check ins, I need the motivation. I haven't worked out since the weekend before my BFP, and I'm being such a chicken about it!! Sheesh, I know that jogging isn't going to jar my baby loose, I guess I am just being lazy. Going to be walking all weekend though, so I hope that keeps me motivated

  • Hey there. I'm in! So far this week I've only done a light cardio kick box 3 times. Before getting pregnant I was really into Jillian Michaels 30 day shred DVDs - I don't know if those are too intense or not. I'm assuming so - so I haven't done those. I haven't heard of the Lindsay Brin's Complete Pregnancy Workout - but I think I might have to get it! I love working out in the convenience of my own home. Thanks!
  • Hi All.  I was pretty bad too, but I did take an extended vacation to my parent's house till Wednesday.  I should of took some walks with my mom though...

I did go to the gym on Thursday, but can't tonight because (AW), it's my six year dating anniversary with DH! Even though we are married, Dec 3 holds a special place in my heart.

I vow to get to the gym, or take a walk over the weekend.  Monday starts my usual work out routine with my gym buddy.

  • I have been pretty bad about exercise ever since I got back from vacation in Sept. Since I am going into pregnancy about 15 lbs more than I'd like to be, I am going to start doing some low impact exercise.

I take my dog on 30 min. walks on a regular basis, but I am also going to get back on my Elliptical machine in the mornings.

With the frequent hunger that I have been experiencing already, and the holidays coming I want to make sure that I don't start gaining weight too fast.

My *plan* was to walk 3-5 days a week during lunch break at work...so far I made it once this week, although I will try again today.  Mon I was lazy, Tues. I walked for 35 mins, Wed. I'm not sure what my excuse was since I was actually feeing good, and yesterday I was feeling too sick/light headed to want to try walking.  Today I am somewhere in the middle of the feeling-ok spectrum so I am going to try to go for a walk, even if it ends up being slow/short.

Anyone else getting out of breath *way* easier than before they were KU?  I'm still taking the stairs at work (3 flights from parking to office), but it seems to take a lot more out of me than it used to.

YES! and I am not even that far along yet.

  • Hi, I'd like to join the check-in!

I bought Summer Sander's prenatal exercise dvd and have done it twice now. I actually really like it.  It's not really difficult at all, but I do feel like I'm getting a good workout out of it.  I want to keep up with doing yoga too.

  • I'm vowing to myself that I will start exercising a little this coming week. My doc recommended doing 5-10 mins starting out and hopefully by the time finals are finished I am up and working out pretty steadily. I believe yesterday at the doc's office that I only gained 2 lbs., I am blaming this on my shoes though! Seriously. and as I say all of this I am munching on my left over cookie from Great American Cookie Co.Wink

and Cmom, I'm with you there, I've got this irrational fear. Read: Highly Irrational!!!

I want to start out slow, maybe walking a mile or two on the treadmill a day and see how that goes! This Healthy Gain is such a great idea, way to keep us all motivated!

  • I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only person not exercising this week.  I feel like I've been a lazy bum! I'm getting over a cold so I took it pretty easy but I'm hoping to start running again next week.

  • I am so glad we are doing this check-in I really want to stay healthy during this pregnancy. I have been so bad and I haven't worked out since Thanksgiving and getting my BFP. We have an elliptical at home so I want to start doing that for 30 minutes 3 times a week.

  • I did the elyptical last night for 20 minutes.  And some yoga stretches.  Nothing fabulous but I'm saying at least its something.  Plan to do some more tonight.

    I'm in the same boat!

I belong to a gym in my work building so I've been trying to lift weights and walk on the treadmill during my lunch hour. I really should try a little harder to go a few more times a week.

I only walked and lifted weights on Monday and Wednesday.

    S/PAIF/PAL ALWAYS WELCOME!!
  • I have been lazy with exercise lately, but will definitely start up again next week with my favorite yoga classes.  I did prenatal yoga throughout my last pregnancy and I feel like it REALLY helped my body.
  • I've done 3 days of cardio so far (45 min to an hour on the stationary bike) and I'm going to hit the gym tomorrow and sunday. Hoping to keep up the 5 workouts next week as well.

I also invested in a couple of really good, REALLY supportive sports bras to minimize discomfort during workouts. It has helped big time.

Good luck this week, ladies! :)

  • This is such a great idea! I've already gained 4 lbs, but I think that is more me taking the liberty to eating junk food than the baby!

I took 3 30 minute walks and 2 Body Pump classes this past. I'm always talking myself out of excercise :(
