Two questions:
1) When you hear the name "Avery" - do you think of a girl or a boy?
2) Would it be weird to name a child the same name as your coworker? I'm not close to this coworker - I've only met this person a couple of times and I work in a different branch office.
Thanks!
Re: WDYT?
1) Unfortunately, I now only think girl when I hear this name.
2) I personally wouldn't, but I work in a small office with only 7 other people. In your situation I think it's perfectly fine.
1) Avery is a boy name, it's nms though. Too wanna be trendy
2) Not at all
1. I only know one Avery and she's a girl, so I always think girl. Honestly, I never knew it was ever a boy's name until I came on the Baby Names board.
2. No.
1) girl
2) no

1. Both Averys that I know are girls. One is 3 and one is 30. I know it was a boy name but my immediate assumption is girl.
2. No it wouldn't be weird.
1.
I think boy although the only Avery I know is a little girl. I'm not a fan of the name.
2. No
Sidenote: I don't think Avery works with Annika AT ALL. Not only do they share the same first letter but they are completely different styles.
1) I think of it as a boys name, but it's one that I do like on girls. It's definitely becoming more and more popular for girls and hardly any boys are given it anymore.
2) No
Thanks for your input, Ladies!!
1. Avery = girl for me now. I thought it was odd when my aunt and uncle chose it for their daughter eight years ago, but now it's clearly gone to the girls.
2. Eh. Not weird in the situation you described. If it was a person you interacted with all the time, maybe. But even then---if you like a name, someone's bound to have it. No big deal.
I must say - I love your DD's name. If my married name didn't begin with F (it would sound too sing-songy together), it would definitely be at the top of my list.
1. I've only heard Avery for girls, so I think girl.
2. I don't think that it is weird to name your child the same name as a coworker, especially because you aren't close. You will have your child forever but you will probably change jobs at some point.
