Help with memorial gift (friends' mom)

I need some ideas.....something I can get for tomorrow/send within a couple days.

I'm friends with two sisters who lost their mom suddenly this week....so I'd like something for each, or something they can have 'part' of.  I know there will be an over-abundance of flowers...she worked for the county government, lived in a small, tight-knit town, and her husband had his own business for years and years.

My friends are 34 & 31 if that matters....both have little boys (4,2, 3 mos)...something they can keep.

Or if you have an idea of something where I can give them something now, then order something (like the wind chimes)....let me know the 'now' idea.  Or can I skip a 'now' gift and do the wind chimes, which I guess they'd receive once things calm a bit?

Thanks.  Chances are I will not be able to be at the services this weekend.

(and fyi, this may seem like a drive-by post, but I will be back to thank y'all in a couple hours.)

  • When my mom passed away, someone gave us a tree. We planted it in our back yard where I can see it outside our kitchen window. But I do like the wind chime idea.

Thank you!  I was hoping you'd post.....(that sounds horrible...but I really have no clue what it is like to be you or them, and I want something that would really be treasured)

about the tree - are you in your 'forever' home?  Would you dig it up and move it if you moved?

  • I hope we are in our forever home. We moved into my mom and dad's home to help my dad keep it (it was my mom's forever home. they lived here for 20 years). My dad has since moved on and we plan to stay.

If we were to have to sell, I don't know if we would dig it up (it could be too big if that time were to come). Good question, though.

  • When my mom passed away I loved getting a nice house plant. The thing that meant the most to me were meaningful cards. Not just the ones that said Sorry for your loss. try www.thecomfortcompany.com I got a really sweet plaque that goes in my garden. I also like the idea of a fruit basket because the last thing I wanted to do was cook.

  • When my sister passed away , I recvd a beautiful indoor wreath.  I do not remember the company that it came from, but it was very thoughtful and appreciated.  I believe there was a poem attached to help with grieving.   I also agree with the meaningful cards.
