TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Intro & some insight could help

Hello All,  I am Cyn.  Quick intro ... I am 30 years old, married for 3 years now.  A little over two years ago I stopped taking birth control, had a positive preg test late September '09 in which I miscarried esitmated 5 weeks.  Doc said give it three months and we can start again.  So we have been trying since Jan '10 and have not had any success.

I would like to see a RE however I have some questions that I hope you can help me with. 1) For the first appointment, does my husband come with me? 2) What can I expect in the first appoinment, is it just a consulation or does actual testing begin? I did the whole chart my temp and observe cervical mucus and I did record it but... short version I was frustrated and just threw it out.  3) Will the doctor ask for this as proof that I was really trying since Jan 2010?

I think I have more questions but they are not coming to mind right now.  If anyone can give me some insight to my first appointment with the RE.  Or any advice on how to make the visit smoother so that I can stop feeling so nervous at evening calling...

Thanks for listening and for all the future advice.

  • Welcome to the board. Dh doesn't need to go with you to your first appt, mine didn't. It will most likely be a consult and then they will tell you when to come back for blood tests or any other tests they want to run. My RE had me chart for a few months and bring in those charts for her to see, charting doesn't really work for me because I almost never get a full night sleep and always wake at different times.

  • My RE wanted my DH to come to the first apt.  I would just ask when you call to make the apt.  They did an untrasound at mine to look at my linning and see if I had any cysts.  Then the rest of the apt they just talked about history.  Mine wanted to look at my charts to see if they would tell him anything so I printed them all out.

  • My DH did not come with me to the first appointments, this second time we've been seeing the RE he did come to the appointment when we went over the test results and talked about what our treatment plan would be.  He had some questions about that.  Mine never asked for charts or asked me to temp, but I might have mentioned that I had been doing it and it looked like I was ovulating.  No, no proof of how long we were trying was required but I did have to make sure this second time that I told them that we hadn't used birth control for 2.5 years (the truth) so that I met the insurance requirement for coverage.  Good luck.

  • I know it's been awhile since I posted.  But I have read all the responses and then took the time to research a RE in my area.  My insurance doesn't give me much options though.  Despite it all I made an appointment for this Friday.

Thank you for all the information!
