Amnio experience?!

Can anyone let me know how their amnio experience was? I'm nervous about the possibility of having one. Our baby is measuring extremely big so I'm either going to be induced or have a scheduled c sec and they want to test his fluid to determine his lung development. I've only heard bad things about amnios. What should I expect?

Re: Amnio experience?!

  • Mine was actually fast and painless. You feel pressure from the needle, but not pain. The whole procedure took maybe 5 minutes.

  • My doctor said the same thing (quick and pain free). I think it's the "thought" of it.
  • I work in a high-risk OB office and we perform amnios everyday. Typically it is the nerves that are the hardest part. Take a few deep breathes and it will truly be over before you know it!! Most women say pressure, not pain.

  • Hello;

    I just had an Amnio done on this past Thursday. I was really nervous about it but it went really well. The entire thing last about 5-10 mins.
    I didnt feel any pressure. It did hurt a tad bit when he was pulling out the needle but not too bad.
    I'm glad it was over as quickly as it was. I was prescribed some meds in case I started cramping after wards but I havent had to use them.
    All in all it was quick and not too painfull. I dont even have any tenderness where the needle was inserted.

    Good Luck and try not to worry about it. :)
