How much $$ to put on GC for teacher?

DS has two teachers who he adores.  How much is a nice amount??

  • I think whatever you can afford and are comfortable with is a nice amount.  From what I hear, the teachers think so too.

I know it is an aggravating answer but it's true.  If your family is on a meager income, $5-10 is great.  If you are living in a palatial mansion with gold-plated fixtures, $100 or more is great.  It all depends.

  • Any amount! Cash/gift cards are the best gifts. $10 to Starbucks is great. $25 to the mall is super.

  • I do $5-$10 per teacher on a Starbucks GC and then bake cookies...but we have 13 teachers this year to buy for (some won't get the GC and will just get baked goods).  DD#2 has 3 main teachers.  DD#1 has 2 main teachers.  They share a music/movement teacher that has each class for 30 minutes 2X a week.  Then there's their gymnastic coaches (only an hour a week).  DD#1's 2 museum school teachers (2 hours/week).  DS's Kindermusik teacher and the 2 directors at the girls' preschool.  Ugh!!  I never realized people did gifts for all these teachers until I was well into some of these with DD#1.  Anyway, the ones who have the kids for less than 2-3 hours/week, get baked goods except DS's Kindermusik teacher b/c I love her and she's had all three of my kids now.
  • I was a preschool teacher last christmas and was shocked on how much parents gave to us. I believe i got around $350 in gift cards to starbucks, macys, albertsons, visa gc...I believe that $10 to starbucks and a homemade card is great, it warms our hearts when "our kids" make stuff for us :)
