RP: Can you recommend a sling/carrier

I am sorry if there are lots of posts on this, but I am at work and I don't have time to filter through. I am very close to being a 2u2 mom and am thinking that babywearing will be helpful with a second newborn. The whole time my DD1 was a newborn I thought about babywearing but never did it. Can you ladies recommend your sling/wrap/carrier for me. I have been trying to research the best ones for breastfeeding, but I could use some personal experience. TIA!

  • The Moby was a lifesaver with baby #2 (I had a home made one with Joann's fabric for $7!). I hated the idea of it and never tried with #1 but a friend just about forced me into trying it out with #2 and OMG it really does make a difference.

As soon as my baby got larger though I wasn't as fond of it and switched to a Mei tai around 4 months or so (she was a super large baby though).

Now I like my ring sling for both.

I never tried nursing in the Moby but do in the ring sling and Mei Tai... it works well as long as I have a shirt I could whip the b out over the top

Thanks so much. This is very helpful.

  • Hey there.  I mostly lurk, but this is my favorite topic, so I hope you don't mind if I chime in!

I'm active over at thebabywearer.com and wrap my 23lb DD daily, and have worn her since birth.  We had the moby first, then we had an Ergo, a ring sling, and a mei tai, then we "upgraded" to wraps.  Wraps are by far the most versatile. I've breastfed in all of them, but I think its easiest in a wrap as well... though its much easier than you'd imagine in an Ergo and a MT.  I loved nursing in an Ergo with a cover... now I'm less modest... LOL!  When DD was teeny, I BFed in a front wrap cross carry or pocket carry (the most popular moby carry, I would guess).  When she got to be around 15-20 lbs, I liked to nurse in a Kangaroo Carry, now I like to nurse in a hip carry.  Ad added bonus of nursing in wraps is that you can use the tails as nursing covers.  This is also true of ring slings, but they aren't my favorite for newborns.  I hope that helps!

  • We started with a moby, but they quickly outgrow those! We upgraded to a woven wrap and I love it! They are a little more expensive but worth every penny! I wrap Lia daily and don't know how I could get by without it!
