Re: best formula for colic/gas

  • My DS is on Good Start Protect Plus. He started off on Similac Advance which caused him terrible gas pains. With formula, what works for one baby may not for another. How long are you giving it to see if your LOs respond to a formula?

  • We skipped trying Soy and went staight to the Nutramigin but have you tried Soy? Also found that Nutramigin is a whole lt cheaper at Walmart then at grocery stores (8$ cheaper here).
  • Ask your pedi. I wouldn't just choose a hypoallergenic formula without the doctor in on it because this formulas are very High in salt, etc.

  • I agree with checking with your pedi.  He's the one that put us on GentleEase.  It doesn't solve all her gas issues but it's working better than anything else we've tried and everytime we switch it gets worse so we're just sticking with it.

I've read that switching to soy generally won't make any difference because gas isn't usually related to milk allergies.  According to what to expect, a lot fewer babies have milk issues than we think!

My doctor also said that anything you try can stay in their tummies for a week so make sure you give a new kind plenty of time to settle in before deciding it doesn't work.
    Good luck!

  • I had the same problem with LO.  Terrible gas, you could hear the loud sounds in his stomach.  He started on Enfamil then the pedi switched him to Similac Sensitive.  The Similac did not help at all.Gripe water also didn't help.

I eventually switched him to Good Start Gentle Plus on my own.  Now he is 100% better.  This formula also worked for my niece and nephew.

  • What type of bottles are you using? Switching from Born Free to Dr. Brown bottles reduced my LO's gas about 50%.
