Adoption

Lost in Paperwork

I'm totally lost in the paperwork for the foster/adopt system. If I fill out the state paperwork, will they transfer it to the county? Or do I have to fill out all the county stuff as well. And, since we're right on the border of 2 other states, could we also be eligible there, or only in our home state?

We're in PA, within an hour of NJ and NY. Everything I've found online just keeps pointing me in circles, and I've spent my last two lunch hours on hold with county offices.

TIA!

Re: Lost in Paperwork

  • Living close to the stateline also, I know that in our area you can only be foster parents in the state that you actually live in.  The laws differ too much between states.  Do you have a caseworker that is leading you through all of this?  I would definitely call them to ask your specific questions.   If you don't have a caseworker, I'd try to find one asap within the county you are working with!  I know the paperwork is scary, I had to ask a lot of questions, but eventually got my answers and that part is behind me for now!   Good luck!
