Elf on the Shelf?

I've seen several friends post about this on FB and I am intrigued.  It sounds like there's a book but I can't seem to find the book without the elf.  Are there more than one books on the subject?  Where do I find them?  My mom actually has some antique elves that's been passed down which are really cute and I'd like to use one of them if I can get the book separate.  Thanks!

I am pretty sure you can not get the book without the elf, I got one today and it is a box set (book and elf)

I think it's a package deal but I could be wrong....maybe they just sell the book???  Did you go to the elf on the shelf website?   Amazon also sells them. (the sets)

I'm LOL at this post.  Cause everyone seems to be loving The Elf... and in yesterday's Bump Newsletter... it was listed as the Top 10 gifts everyone hates receiving.  Umm... I guess they were WRONG!!

You could always take the basic points of the book (the rules/explanation) and type a letter to the kids "from" your vintage elf.

Key points:

He is there to watch to see if the kids are naughty or nice

Uses magic to fly to the N pole each night while kids are asleep to report back to Santa

RULE: Don't touch the elf or he may lose his magic

He' flies back before the kids wake and find a new spot to watch from.

Will leave Xmas day, but comes back each year after Thanksgiving.

Thanks! With the coupon it seemed pretty reasonable to just get it. I did want a book because at 2 a book is the best way for any new thing to sink in I bought the book on my way home and we've already read it 3 times and are loving "Twinkle"! I couldn't wait for my mom to send me an elf, love this idea!
