We're holding our Christening reception at a restaurant and the dinner package includes a dessert. In lieu of the restaurant's dessert, we can bring in our own cake and they'll "waive" the cake cutting fee ($1 pp). But given that we'd have to spend upwards of $60 on a cake, I'm considering not bringing in a cake at all and just going with the restaurant dessert (an apple pie) to save money. Is it odd to not have a cake, though?
Re: Christening - Is it weird to NOT have a cake?
That's a tough one..... Maybe you should do a clicky poll. If I was a guest, I'd be surprised of no cake, but It wouldn't be that big a deal...
ETA: Maybe you could get a small one, so guest have the choice of which one they want?????

Ditto. We had cupcakes, but I was thinking about just doing pumpkin cheesecakes.
