DD got sent home from pre-k for a runny nose today. She has had it since last Thursday. It is worse in the AM. I have been sending her to school all week and they have said something to me each day, but I talked to a ped about it on Sunday and she said that without any other symptoms, it was fine to send her.
I called the doctor (a different ped) and they were surprised that they sent her home and said that it was ridiculous. They said if I brought her in, and paid my $25 copay and took 1.5 hours of our lives and expose the kids to more germs, they would write a note saying as much and she could go to school tomorrow. Otherwise, I have to keep her home tomorrow. Would you take her or just keep her home? Would you take her without the note and just tell them what the doctors said?
She has no other issues and says she feels fine.
Re: Would you take your kid to the doctor?
I don't underrstand why they sent her home - just a runny nose and no other symptoms? Is that their health policy? DS would never make it to preschool if that was a rule at his school.
No, I wouldn't take him to the pedi. In fact, he has had a runny nose and cough for the past 3 weeks and I haven't taken him. IMO unless there is a fever, vomiting, rash, or the kid is not acting like they normally would, they are fine.

I'd take her. Then talk to the director. We have a written policy of what is okay and what is not...so I'd take that with me, and have a little talk about the absurdity of her getting sent home for a runny nose.
I would never go anywhere if runny noses were that bad.....with 4 kids someone ALWAYS has a runny nose.
ET Clarify - by "take her" I mean take her to school. I would not take her to the dr.
