Success after IF

Pregnancy after Polyps?

Hi ladies,

I am new to this board, I usually post on the TTGP board but I was hoping to get some information from you guys. I just had a SHG test last week and discovered I have several uterine polyps which the doctor thinks may be the reason for our problems getting pregnant. I am having a D&C this monday to remove them.  Did any of you have polyps removed before you got pregnant? If so, how long did it take you to conceive after the removal and did you conceive without IVF? Thanks!! :-)

Trying for #1 since 5/2010
12/2010-hysteroscopy done to remove uterine polyps
6/2/11=BFP!!!!
EDD 2/12/12

Re: Pregnancy after Polyps?

  • I had one small polyp removed at the beginning of my RE journey. I then tried clomid and 3 IUI's without success. I moved on to IVF and got pregnant the first transfer. While I still needed IVF I think it was good to have it removed just to rule it out. Many people do get pregnant though after removing the polyp.

  • I had one removed before IVF #1 - BFN. IVF #2 - BFN. Another few removed before IVF#3 - those were taking up 3/4 of my ute and had damaged a tube. Also a BFN. FET #1 was my BFP, but u/s during pg showed polyps of fibroids so I need to have another HSG before we TTC again.

I had hysteroscopy to remove, not a D&C. Good luck!

  • I had 2 or 3 polyps removed right before my IVF cycle.  They were found during the SHG while I was on BCP.  I was able to have them removed a couple of days after finding them and started stimming around 2 weeks later.  I got pregnant on that cycle.  We didn't try on our own after so who knows what could have happened.  I did however get pregnant with #2 without treatment.  Maybe the polyps were a big part of the problem?  I have no idea, but I know that having them removed can only help.  Good luck to you!

  • Thanks for all the input ladies.  I know removing them may not be the miracle cure we are looking for but I figure it can only help.  It is good to know so many of you got pregnant afterwards whether it was with IVF or without. Thanks again!

  • I had mine removed December of 07 than I was cycling the next month. i got BFP with first IVF but I miscarried that one (they found out i have a blood clotting disorder so that was the cause) than in Feb of 08 had another round of IVF and 9 month laters my twins were born! Fast forward to Feb of 09 I was cycling again and 9 months later had Brady

  • I had a polyp removed back in March.  My RE attributed my 2 c/ps to poor egg quality, but we had known about the polyp and the little ones still weren't sticking, so I requested to have it removed.  I was fully set to beef up the meds the cycle after my surgery, but I got lucky and despite having no meds in the week leading up to the surgery (though I was able to take meds after the surgery), I got pg that cycle and this one decided to stick around too.  I believe my hysteroscopy was 3/30, and my EDD is 12/25!  I wish you the very best!
