DH is military and we were offered the posting at the Embassy.
We thought it was a great opportunity to be able to see and show our kids another part of the world.
The money is much more than we make at home, enough that we can save a little for a larger down payment on a house when we come back to Canada or whatever. It also allows me to comfortably stay home for the kids.
We also get a travel allowance with it which allows us to take 3-4 vacations a year depending on how we spend it (if we don't use the money for vacations, we don't get it - so it's great incentive). It's really allowed us and our boys to see and experience much more than one could ever ask for.
DH also works for the government. The work is interesting and you get to live in lots of neat places. Moving and being away from family sucks, but I think the pay off, particularly for the kids, will be worth it.
Re: those of you who live abroad...
