Trying to Get Pregnant

Sorry for jumping the gun yesterday...

Sorry, I didn't introduce myself yesterday before I went off about "What NOT to say to someone TTGP." I have been lurking on here for what feels like forever (in reality probably only 7 months which is how long DH and I have been TTC).

I read on a post that was written earlier today about someone starting Clomid. I went to my ob/gyn [again] yesterday and was started on Clomid.I started Provera last night so, hopefully, I'll get AF ASAP so THEN I can start Clomid. I have been monitoring my ovulation by OPK's for a few months now and never had a + - so I guess I was never ovulating. Gyn said I could only do clomid for 3 cycles. I guess my question is should I be concerned with Clomid since my gyn prescribed it and not a RE?

I had surgery in Oct to remove a cyst that wouldn't go away, but have been "cleared" since.

Again, I'm sorry for my ramblings yesterday, but it was officially the worst day I've had in a LONG time. I was holding out hope that I might actually get a BFP at the dr's office.

  • Hi, welcome! I don't have any experience with clomid, but hope that someone else can give you an answer. Best of luck to you.

Maybe.  What sort of monitoring are they doing?  You should be getting baseline bloodwork and u/s on CD3 and at least one or more followups of both after the meds - usually starting around CD10 or CD12.    If you aren't getting that, then yes - you should be concerned.

Also, do you chart your temps at all?   I never (in 6 months) got a positive OPK, but my temps confirmed O very clearly every cycle.    Sometimes people have short surges and miss them.

Also, before starting any fertility med (of which clomid is the most common), you should have an HSG done to ensure your tubes are open, and your DH should have an SA to make sure the swimmers are in good form - before wasting time on clomid only to find out later there was a different problem.

  • I know how you feel! I've been lurking muchhhh longer than I've been posting. I have a feel for the board, but my post count doesn't show it! I was scared to post for the longest time. So I know when people make stupid posts I really want to go off on them, I'm afraid everybody would be like "who is SHE to say anything!"

  • Welcome and ditto what staycee said. OPK's aren't as accurate as temping so I would recommend that if you aren't doing it already. I would also encourage your dr to do more testing (HSG, SA) before prescribing any meds. And make sure you're monitored while on any fertility meds.
