Adeline is one of our top name choices, but I can't decide on spelling. I like "Adeline" better than "Adalyn", but don't know how most people would pronounce her name spelled the first way.
Add uh leen is the correct, French pronunciation (think Josephine). And there's a singing group of women called the Sweet Adelines, so that helps me remember it.
However, because the LINE ending can be treated a few different ways depending on where it's pronounced, I wouldn't side eye an Add uh lien pronunciation. I of course, am comfortable with that because we use the LIEN when saying, Emmeline. I proudly proclaim my American bastardization of the name. But it's a bit easier because so few people I'm around know it. More people might know Adeline and LEEN.
ETA: Caroline is a great example - it has several ways to pronounce the ending...

funny...my hubby and I just talked about this name and moved it to the top of the list last night.
He likes it a lot and I am worried it will be mispronounced. I love it no matter how it is said I just want it to be pronounced consistantly. My maiden name ended in LEIN but was pronounced LINE.....drove people nuts but I just learned to deal with it...."part of the charm" my Dad always said.

Same.
And it's the name of a busy boulevard here.

I think most people would pronounce it AdaLINE. If you like Adalyn, you should find a spelling you can sit with. I know a Addilin
When I see Adeline, I pronounce it Add-a-line
when I see Adalyn, I pronounce it Add-a-lynn
thats my IMO vs the 2 spellings.
