Why is there such a discrepency in the Dec birthstone? Actually, if you take a look a lot of months are different (i.e June/Oct). Which one is it? lol I like the first version best.

I know, I always wonder the same thing. I LOVE my birthstone though, it's June and it's either Alexandrite or Pearl...I go with Alexandrite because it's my favorite color.

I'm pretty sure the first one is the correct/proper one. I know that October is Opal and April isn't crystal, its diamonds. So maybe its like the yearly wedding gifts...there's a more traditional chart and a more modern one. Because Diamonds and opals are a little more rare, maybe they've made a 'cheaper' chart?

My mom was a jewelry store manager and was born in June. She said (and I may have this backwards) that Pearl is the traditional birth stone but because its not a real "stone" Alexandrite has become the alternative.

Ha ha ha..maybe. I'm an April baby and I've always known I'm a diamond too. I like your theory. I will keep the first one as well for my LO.

Yeah, that's why I don't understand getting worked up over the November birthstone. There are plenty of alternates, so if you don't like Citrine or Golden Topaz, go with Blue Topaz (or pink, violet, clear, etc...topaz comes in a million colors).
I'm a June baby so my stone is Pearl and Alexanderite. Since Pearl isn't a real stone we have Alexanderite as well. Not to mention real alexanderite is expensive and hard to get your hands on. It actually changes colors from purple to red to green. Beautiful stone!
My H is a November baby so he is citrine which I like because it's kinda orange and I love orange.
LJ will be a December baby (of course) so Blue topaz- gorgeous!

Those are the only stones I actually know LOL

I'm a December baby and it's always been a Blue Topaz for as long as I can remember...so the top chart. I think maybe the zircon is cheaper? They also have come out with more "contemporary" charts and on that Tanzanite is also used for December. So I usually think either Blue Topaz (which varies in color drastically) or Tanzanite (which I guess like all stones also varies in color).
