Birth control...

Does anyone take LoSeasonique or Seasonique?  It's the pill that gives you only four periods a year...

I'm just starting birth control again and my doctor gave me a 3 month sample of this.  Just curious if you like it or what you think..?

Re: Birth control...

  • I have not taken that brand of pill, but just FYI- You can 'stack' bc pills (take them back to back) using other brands and only have a few periods per year. I've asked multiple doctors about this and they've all said it's no problem. So you don't necessarily have to use that brand.

eta: not sure the brands I've asked about but they've never said no and I've used many different brands.

  • I'm not on it now, but I was a few years back and I liked it.  I did have breakthrough bleeding around the time I'd normally have a period for the first month, and it was equivalent to a light and short period (3-4 days).  But after that, I only got my period when I was supposed to.

  • I did continous birth control for quite a while, first with yasmin, and then with ortho-evra (the patch). Both are off the market now...nice, but it worked well for me. I think the only reason the seasonique does the four times a year thing is because some people think it's weird to not have ANY periods. My doctor suggested it because I was having horrible migraines on the off week. Once I quit taking that week off they stopped.

  • I just started my LoSeasonique sample pack last night, so I don't know much yet, but I have friends who are on it and they like it.

  • I've been on it in the past and it made me very moody (but many BCPs do that to me). The main reason I switched to something different was because I'd feel crampy and PMS-y every month when my period *would* have come, just no period...so it wasn't worth it to me.

I'm on LoEstrin now and barely have a day of light spotting once a month on this pill (which I've heard is common). I'll take this any day over a regular period 4xs a year ;)
