my first post ever-
just had my appointment at 36 1/2 weeks this morning to find out my baby girl is already 7 lb 10 oz!!!! if she went to 40 weeks she could be 10 lbs or so... and im not even sure she could be delivered vaginally at this point.
im 50% thinned but not dialated at all... i was really hoping they were wrong on my due date but it looks like this kid's just a big healthy girl! how did this happen!?!?
so i was told we'll see what happens next monday but if she doesn't come on her own in the next 2 weeks it's a c-section for me!
i'd rather just schedule the c-section ASAP, of course giving the baby enough time to have healthy lungs, etc. 38 weeks would be the 10th so that would be perfect for me! i wish the dr. would do this and not make me wait until the 19th or something to have a c-section and a 10 lb kid!
im just overwhelmed and having a tough time digesting this- i really wanted to have a natural birth but i dont wanna have her yanked out because of a big head or shoulders.
any thoughts? should i just get over it? im not sure what im supposed to be thinking... or be happy or not. ahh!
Re: massivebaby!!!
Yeah, ditto PP. Don't get too excited about it. And don't put too much stock in those estimates. They can be way off. And if you can, try to have her naturally- it's the most ideal way to be born.
Good luck, though.
Well, I'm not a lot of help to ease your mind about large babies as mine was measuring 7lbs, 12 oz at 35w and I just went into for another growth u/s at 39w and he's measuring 9lbs, 13 oz and yes, we scheduled a c/s for this Thursday.
I think your main focus should be what's going to be easier on your baby. Could you deliver a 10lb baby? Possibly. Have women done it before? Yes. But, there can be some major stress put on the baby on trying to deliver it vaginally. Talk to your doctor as time gets closer. GL!
Not to freak you out but there's a margin of error of about a lb on those machines lol.
I know what you mean about wanting to having a natural birth instead of a c-section. My LO was 7lbs at my 35wk bpp. I'm feeling every ounce of him lol.
I'm sure things will be fine, just let things go how they're going to go. Of course be happy! My theory is I'd rather have a c-section than have him get stuck, or get a 4th degree tear. My doc explained it to me this way: You will be fine after two weeks having a section, you wont be able to walk straight for 6 weeks with a 4th degree tear.
That pretty much summed it up for me.
So sorry to hear about your concerns...I'm sorta in the same boat. I was a 13lb baby myself and my mom had me vaginally and is a small framed woman. At my 37 week appointment dr estimated (just by touch) that my baby is 7.5lbs and of course I'm a lil scared about that. I am a medium/large framed woman so I'm still hoping for a vaginal birth, my dr doesn't think I couldn't handle a big baby and would have to opt for c-section. We shall see come Thursday at my next appointment.
Gluck and try NOT to worry so much, I know it's easier said than done...
My FIL informed me this weekend that the biggest baby delivered vaginally was 22 lbs. I think you'll be OK.
