No Contractions?

I keep getting asked by everyone if I'm having contractions...my answer is no. I may be having some mild ones, there is some discomfort in my tummy and it feels like it's tightening, but it's never really awful. It's hard for me to tell if I've had many braxton hicks since I am on the chunky side, I can't really "see" the tightening of my belly.
I do however, feel like my pelvis is going to be split in two and am not comfortable at all. Sort of like I fell really hard on my tailbone.
Anyone else? I keep getting comments like "Oh, I bet you'll go late," since I'm not having strong contractions.
I know labor is different for everyone, I'm just kind of curious if it's that gradual of thing, or are some fairly contractionless until labor is right around the corner.

(Sorry if this post is all over the place...I'm super tired today) Stick out tongue

Re: No Contractions?

  • I haven't been having contractions either.  I keep waiting for something to happen, but I have a feeling this LO is going to stay in past my due date.

  • I haven't really had any Braxton Hicks.  I did have a burning cramp a couple of times that my doctor said MAY have been BH, but otherwise, no tightening that I'm noticing.

But I don't actually think that has anything to do with going late.  It's like how some people can be 2 cms dilated for weeks and not have anything while others go from 0 to 10 in mere hours.  It's just what your body does!

  • Not having contractions, or noticable ones at least, doesn't really mean anything.  I never really noticed any BH or anything but went into labor naturally at 37w3d.  Just like most other pregnancy related symptoms, there is no definate indicator as to when you will go into labor.
  • Thanks....I didn't really think it was an indicator of when I'll go into labor, but when you get a gazillion people saying something, you start to wonder :) If I do go late, well, that's ok, but I'd prefer not to :)

  • No contractions, I think it's just my little guy stretching in there that makes my stomach tight sometimes since it isn't consistent.  Got checked today and he's still high and no progress for me.  I think I'd rather be a little dialated for a few weeks, than nothing until go time.  I figure he's all cozy and isn't going to come unless we threaten once he's past his due date.  My doc already has said he won't induce unless I'm 41+ weeks which makes this guy a Christmas baby.  but I agree, I'm getting tired of people asking why he hasn't come yet, he's still not technically due for another 2 weeks.
