S/O Classes at GBMC...

We are already signed up for the four-week Childbirth class at GBMC in January.  Now I'm looking at possibly signing up for some other classes that will be useful.  I am fairly certain I will be signing up for the BFing class but am also considering some others, especially Infant Care.

I don't mind spending the money if it's something that is worth the cost and the time, but I would prefer to hear from anyone who has been through them before signing up.  Have any of you ladies taken any of the other classes that GBMC offers and can give feedback/recommend (or not recommend)?

  • We went to the bf-ing class there and found it very useful. I definitely recommend it.

  • i liked the infant care class but found the childbirth class useless, especially the relaxation exercises. it was good for the tour but thts about it. the infan care class has a Q&A with a pedi that was awesome.

  • I liked the child birth class.  I was able to use the breathing/relaxation techniques while I was in labor.  It helped me feel more prepared for what was going to happen during the whole process (more so then just reading about it in a book).  I did not find the infant care class to be too useful however.  I liked the Q&A session with the pediatrician. But a lot of the class just went over different products that are on the market (without really giving you suggestions on specifics).  Then we dressed a doll and swaddled a doll.  Good luck and congrats!
  • I attended the Pregnancy Yoga class which I enjoyed.  It helped show me ways to stretch out my body that was safe that I can do at home myself.  I also have done the child birthing classes, good for a first time mom but it is repetitive.  I felt like I could have been done the 4 classes in 3 classes.

  • I really liked the childbirth classes, and they were definitely useful to me! The ONLY thing that saved me from havin Evelyn before the NICU team arrived was the breathing exercises they taught us to use when you aren't allowed to push.  (I went from 4 cm to crowning in just a couple minutes, and I wasn't allowed to push until the NICU team arrived.  So I had to breathe through the urge to push for several contractions.)

  • I delivered at GBMC, but took the breastfeeding class at Upper Chesapeake because it was free there.

Me too!  I definitely utilized the breathing techniques, but I think you can also you tube the same thing instead of paying a ton for the class.

We also took the infant and child CPR and first aid class, which of course is very good to know.
