Baby Names

So is it just me?

I really like these names. Please tell me if I am crazy for considering them.

Girls

1) Bristal Kay

2) Chelsea Kay

3) Lauralai Kay

Boys

1) Carter Alan

2) Hudson Alan

3) Lucas Alan

Re: So is it just me?

  • I like Chelsea and Lorelei (spelled like that), Bristol is NMS and I think is just becoming popular because of Sarah Palin.

I like Carter and Lucas from your boys names. Hudson is okay, but not my favorite.

    Both middle names are nice.

  • Thanx! Bristal for me is a combination of brittni and crystal, two important family members of mine. I hate sarah palin for stealing my thunder.

  • Loading the player...
  • from the girls list, I like Bristal the best, the boys .......it's Hudson.

  • I like Lorelei (spelled this way), Carter and Lucas best.

The others are OK. And Bristal is just awful on so many levels, spelling being #1.

  • I like Chelsea, Hudson, and Lucas. The others are NMS.

Sarah Palin didn't steal your thunder. She named her child after a place that she and her husband love... and she managed to spell it correctly.

Even if she had not named her baby Bristol, you wouldn't have gotten any thunder from me. "Combo names" like the one you came up with are nms. Made up names in general are frowned upon on this board, especially if they look like misspellings.

Why not just give DD#1 the middle name Brittni and DD#2 the middle name Crystal? Or even give DD#1 two middle names?

I would go with Lorelei Brittni or Carter Alan.

Since you are new to this board, I recommend the link in my signature, which says "New to the Baby Names board? Read this sticky note." It will help give you a feel for what is generally accepted/well liked on this board.

  • Agree with pp that Bristal is terrible (smooshed up names are never a good idea IMO)

I do love Chelsea. One of my closest friends is named this and she is gorgeous and it just fits her.

I think all your boy names are fine, I think Lucas might be my favorite just because Carter and Hudson are so popular.

  • please don't use some of those spellings
  • imagemj.reilly:

    ... yeah.

Bristal ? Absolutely terrible. Beyond terrible. First thought, misspelling of Bristol. Second, Palin's daughter who I can't stand. Third, misspelled place name (which I hate). And finally ... makes me want to say Briss-t-al ("a" like in apple).

Chelsea ? Fine, but very dated IMHO. Not a name I would use.

Lauralai ? Do you mean Lorelei? Love it. Lauralai just looks misspelled. Terrible spelling.

    Middle name is fine.

Carter ? NMS, but a fine name. Not my favorite last name as first name.

Hudson ? Best of the three. NMS, but I do like it.

Lucas? NMS, but a fine name.

All of this, except I dislike Hudson. This may be because I live on the Hudson and they are currently dredging it because it's a disgusting polluted river.

  • I like Chelsea and Lorelei. I like Lucas Alan the best out of your girl names. I agree with PP using Crystal and Brittni for middle names.

  • I'm actually one of the few people on this earth (besides Sarah Palin) who really likes the name Bristol. If you're going to use it, though, spell it correctly. I fully supprt that choice since DH wouldn't get on board. :)

Same with Lorelei. It's a more classic choice, and I like the NN Rory.

Chelsea is ok; it feels dated to me, but it's not the worst.

Of your boys names I only really like Lucas. Carter and Hudson are ok names, they're just NMS.

  • I vote Cryttni. ;-)
  • Lorelei (spelled like this) Kay is a beautiful name.

Chelsea is lame and very '80s.  I don't care for Bristol. It's an ugly name.

    Carter is over used.

Hudson Alan is a GREAT, strong name. Lucas Alan is also a nice name.

  • From your girl list, I like Lorelei (spelled this way) best.

From your boy list, I guess Hudson.  I like the name Luke (Lucas is ok).

  • I like Chelsea and Lucas (much prefer just Luke).
  • Seriously? You need to take a chill pill!

First of all, by "stealing my thunder" I mean that now because of Sarah Palin, the name Bristol, Bristal, Brystal, Brystle, Bristle, Bristel, etc will always be immediately associated with Palin. So yes, she did "steal my thunder."

Second of all, you say Sarah Palin managed to spell it correctly because she copied it directly from a place she loved. Well, if I copied it from Brittni and Crystal, then I also spelled it correctly.

Third of all, half the names on this board are ALL MADE UP!

Also, I am not going to read some stupid sticky note telling me what is "acceptable" to this board. Im not here to fit in and look like everyone else. If that was the case, then I would just name my kids after your kids!

Maybe you should read a sticky about how being rude and inconsiderate is generally unacceptable on ANY board, and for society even!!

Try to be a little bit nicer! After all, everyone on here is expecting a precious addition, and do not need mean comments from strangers.

When people write a post, really all it is is a poll to see which is the most liked. So correcting the spelling and insulting others is not necessary.

    :-) Thanks

Ok first of all, I don't think you understand what "steal my thunder" actually means.

Secondly, I don't think you understand what "spelled correctly" means, either.

Good luck to you. My one piece of advice is just to remember, as you go through the naming process, that in the end this is about your child. She will be the one stuck with this name for life. Its really not about you and your husband, but about her.

GL and a happy and healthy nine months to you.

  • I thought these responses were pretty tame.

For the most part we liked your names, except for one?

The point of this board is to be a place to get unbiased opinions, a lot of people appreciate the honesty.

  • The only names on this list that I like are Chelsea and Lucas.  I think Chelsea is a beautiful name, and we have even considered it for ourselves in the future.  I am SUPER tired of the last names as first names trend and I know of several Carters and Hudsons born in the past few years.

I pretty much agree with what everyone said about Bristal and Lorelei is NMS.

    oh yes this!!

  • Lauralai is just plain hideous.  The spelling hurts my eyes... any of the others are nothing special but not bad in my book.
  • HAHAHAHAHAHA.... a STICKY NOTE??  As if someone's rules actually matter as to what is going to be posted on a public message board.  How entertaining and insanely stupid... oh Bump, you just keep getting better and better.  Gotta defend the OP a little here.  Saying that someone should read your "sticky note" so that they know what is generally accepted... now I have seen everything. Do what you want there, OP.  Nobody has to love your names but you, but keep in mind that this is a public message board and you have to have a little bit of a thick skin when you start asking for opinions.  You know the old saying.  If you can't stand the heat...

  • Yeah, I'll be sure to do that LOL
  • Disclaimer: I have not been sleeping well, just had to jab myself in the gut with a needle, and have been fighting a cold for the past several days.  Consider yourselves warned.Wink

    ...Bristle...

PLEASE someone tell me nobody's started naming their children this!?!?!  Reminds me of paintbrushes(or shoe-shine brushes): "genuine boar bristle."

    imagestarlynn22:
If that was the case, then I would just name my kids after your kids!

Really?  'Cause that would be a really long name.  Particularly considering how tastes vary around here...  On the plus side, your kid could always get an extension on assignments, just to give him/her time to finish writing his/her name.Wink

    imagestarlynn22:
Third of all, half the names on this board are ALL MADE UP!

So is the whole of the English language, if you go back far enough...but we still have standardized spelling, and last I checked at least SOME teachers still graded on such things.

    imagestarlynn22:
everyone on here is expecting a precious addition

Nope!  Some of the folks here already have kids, some don't, some are expecting, some aren't...the main thing the folks here have in common is NOT that we're "expecting a precious addition" but that we have a genuine interest in names.  That's why people come here, and that's why people ask for honest opinions here--because they know we'll give them.  We don't know you*, we're not your* mommy or your* bestest best buddy, so we have no obligation to sugar-coat the truth to make you* feel better about a poor decision.

    imagestarlynn22:
When people write a post, really all it is is a poll to see which is the most liked.

Only if the original poster specifically says "don't tell me what you DON'T like" or something to that effect.  Your original post request was very specific: "Please tell me if I am crazy for considering them."  The posters on this thread did so.  This board is very clear about its reason for being...people come here to ask OPINIONS from OTHER PEOPLE(usually strangers) on possible names.  Opinions are not the same as gold stars, stickers, or feel-good hooey being blown up your butt.  You* can choose to accept or ignore the critiques given, that is your prerogative, but you* CANNOT dictate others' opinions to them.
