2nd Trimester

PLEASE come in if you've fallen while preg

I fell today and landed on my butt.  It was hours ago and I haven't had any bleeding but now I'm starting to have a few random stomach pains--but I have fibroids and random stomach pains from them.  DH is on a 24 hr shift so taking a 15 month old (it's her bedtime in about 2 mins) to the ER by myself for however many hours it would take is not an option.  My dr doesn't have an emergency line so if you all tell me that you fell and everything is OK, then I can relax and be OK until I can call the dr in the morning.  This is my 4th pg, so I know what contrax feel like and I'm not having them, I've just never fallen before so I'm a little nervous.

  • I fell and landed on my belly while pregnant with DS. I did have to stay over night in labor and delivery and was advised not to work for a while, but in the end everything was okay. Falling on your butt seems less harmful. Not having an emergency number for your OB seems troubling.

  • I fell Christmas tree shopping- I tripped on a stump and landed on another stump. I wasn't worried about it at the time- I had an ultrasound scheduled the next day anyway- baby was fine, good heart rate etc.
  • I fell while pregnant with the twins (slipped on a patch of ice) AND I was on modified bedrest (I was handing in a paper to my professor). Drink some water, lay down, and see how you feel. I'm sure everything is ok!

  • I fell up the stairs at the movies.  I was coming back from the bathroom and missed my footing while trying to return to my seat.  No real harm done, other than the fact that I skinned my shin and felt like an idiot.  DH was more scared than I was.

  • I fell too, slipped on my dog's pee... if you were curious.... my feet completely came out from under me and I landed on my side.  Baby is fine!  Hope everything is okay with you...

But I agree with one of the above comments, not having an emergency number does sound a little troubling!

  • Thanks!  My dr is the only one in her practice so if you have any concerns, you automatically go to the ER and if they need to, they call her in.  It is a very small town and a very small hospital so it's not quite the same.  When I was preg with DD I had to go to the ER 3 times for various issues with the fibroids.  By the third time, the nurses would leave their posts to come check on me because they remembered me from the first two trips.  They don't even have their own cafeteria/kitchen.  They share it with the nursing home next door.  But they are the sweetest people ever and I wouldn't go anywhere else.
  • I fell when PG with DS - I was in the early part of the third tri. I landed right on my rear, and other than being a bit sore the next day, I was OK. I did monitor the baby to make sure he was moving around.

  • I've fallen twice.  both times at work (I waitress.)  The first time was w/ DD, The first time my feet slipped from under me and I fell on my butt then my head.  When we went to the ER they were much more concerned about my head b/c I had no bleeding or contrax (I was 5 mos preg.)  The second time was a few months ago, someone spilled something about 30 secs before I got to the kitchen door and as soon as I walked thru I fell on my butt.  It hurt and I felt some pain but when I called my OB she wasn't concerned b/c I wasn't bleeding at all.  Just told me to take it easy for the rest of the day and to call back if the pain got worse or I started spotting.

  • I fell about 3 weeks ago at work and landed on my hands and knees.  My doctor has you go to labor and delivery anytime you fall in case of placental abruption.  Everything was completely fine though.  I would maybe call your labro and delivery unit and explain what happened just in case.  I am overly cautious though!  Good luck I am sure everything is fine.
  • I had a slip and fall (icey sidewalk) at 33 wks. I had to go to L&D for monitoring and an u/s to check the placenta. I think it was because I was so far along, though. At this point in your pregnancy there is a lot of cushion for the baby. GL.
  • I fell down the stairs around 16 weeks. I called the dr and she said to watch for blood in your urine and any kind of cramping. My dr said to call anytime you fall, so I would call in the morning when there office opens.

  • I fell at work when I was 14 weeks along.  I actually broke my wrist in the fall, but had no complications with baby whatsoever.

  • I fell this morning in fact. I was trying to get over the baby gate we have for DD and I didn't clear it. I landed with my toes on one foot completely bent, then I landed on my side. My foot hurts more than anything and is currently throbbing. Baby, I'm not worried about. Just thought I'd share.

  • I went over my mountain bike handle bars in my first trimester. No bleeding, no cramping, so no worries.... but I bailed on the ride we had scheduled the following week and rode a lot slower for the rest of the season. :)

Unless you're bleeding or feeling something wrong, the call can probably wait until the office is open. (Particularly since it sounds like a trip to the ER would be stressful!)

  • I fell at 9 weeks and landed on my side.  Broke a finger on the way down, ended up with a fairly serious contusion, but baby was a-ok.  OB did a u/s on Monday (fell around 4am on Sunday morning) to confirm that there was nothing concerning.  I'd vote that there's no reason to drag your toddler to the ER, and everything is most likely perfectly fine.  Hang in there!
Mommy to Seth (4) and Catherine Anne (13 mo.) Excited to welcome a third child in March of 2013!
